Then all the military leaders, Johanan son of Kareah, Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people, from the least to the greatest, approached.

De sa til profeten Jeremia: «Kjære, la våre bønner nå fram for deg, og be til Herren din Gud for oss, for hele denne resten, for vi er bare noen få igjen av de mange, slik som dine øyne ser oss.

They said to Jeremiah the prophet, "Please let our petition fall before you and pray to the LORD your God for us, for all this remnant. For we are few left from many, as your own eyes can see us.

Måtte Herren din Gud fortelle oss den vei vi skal gå og det vi skal gjøre.»

May the LORD your God tell us the way we should walk and the thing we should do."

Da sa profeten Jeremia til dem: «Jeg har hørt dere. Se, jeg vil be til Herren, deres Gud, slik dere har sagt. Og alt det Herren svarer dere, skal jeg fortelle dere uten å holde noe tilbake.»

Jeremiah the prophet said to them, "I have heard you. I will indeed pray to the LORD your God according to your words, and every word the LORD answers you, I will tell you—I will not withhold a single word from you."

De sa til Jeremia: «Måtte Herren være et trofast og sannhetens vitne blant oss om vi ikke gjør alt det Herren din Gud sender deg for å si til oss.

They said to Jeremiah, "May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act according to every word the LORD your God sends you to tell us.

Enten det er godt eller ondt, vil vi høre på Herrens, vår Guds, stemme, som vi sender deg til, for at det kan gå oss godt når vi adlyder Herrens, vår Guds, stemme.»

Whether it is good or bad, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it may go well with us when we obey the voice of the LORD our God."

Ti dager senere kom Herrens ord til Jeremia.

At the end of ten days, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah.

Da kalte han på Johanan, Kareahs sønn, og alle hærførerne som var med ham, og hele folket fra den minste til den største.

So he summoned Johanan son of Kareah, all the military leaders with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest.

Han sa til dem: «Dette er hva Herren, Israels Gud, sier, som dere har sendt meg til for å legge fram deres bønn for ham.

He said to them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: You sent me to present your petition before Him.

Hvis dere blir værende i dette landet, vil jeg bygge dere opp og ikke rive ned, plante dere og ikke rykke opp, for jeg angrer det onde jeg har gjort mot dere.

"If you will indeed stay in this land, I will build you up and will not tear you down; I will plant you and will not uproot you, for I will relent concerning the disaster I have brought upon you.

Vær ikke redde for Babylons konge, som dere frykter. Frykt ham ikke, sier Herren, for jeg er med dere for å frelse dere og redde dere fra hans hånd.

Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you now fear. Do not be afraid of him, declares the LORD, for I am with you to save you and deliver you from his hand.

Og jeg vil gi dere barmhjertighet, så han vil ha medfølelse med dere og la dere vende tilbake til deres land.

I will show you compassion so that he will have mercy on you and restore you to your land.

But if you say, 'We will not stay in this land,' and do not listen to the voice of the LORD your God,

og sier: 'Nei, vi vil gå til Egypt, der vi ikke ser krig, ikke hører lyden av horn og ikke sulter etter brød, og der vil vi bo,'

Instead, you say, 'No, we will go to the land of Egypt where we will not see war, hear the sound of the trumpet, or suffer hunger for bread. There we will stay.'

så hør nå Herrens ord, dere rest av Juda: Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Hvis dere bestemmer dere for å dra til Egypt og bosette dere der,

Now therefore hear the word of the LORD, remnant of Judah. This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: If you are determined to go to Egypt and settle there,

skal sverdet dere frykter innhente dere der i Egypt, og hungeren som dere er redde for, vil følge tett etter dere dit, og der skal dere dø.

then the sword that you fear will overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine you worry about will follow close behind you to Egypt, and there you will die.

Alle menneskene som satte sitt sinn på å gå til Egypt for å bo der, skal dø ved sverdet, hungersnøden og pesten. Ingen skal overleve eller unnslippe den ulykken jeg lar komme over dem.

All who are determined to go to Egypt to settle there will die by the sword, famine, and plague. Not one of them will survive or escape the disaster I will bring upon them.

For slik sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Som min vrede og harme ble utøst over Jerusalems innbyggere, skal min vrede utøses over dere når dere kommer til Egypt. Dere skal bli til en forbannelse, et forferdelsesobjekt, til forbannelse og spott, og dere skal aldri mer se dette stedet.

This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: As my anger and wrath were poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so too will my wrath be poured out on you when you go to Egypt. You will become an object of cursing, horror, condemnation, and disgrace, and you will never see this place again.

Herren har talt til dere, rest av Juda: Gå ikke til Egypt! Dere skal vite klart at jeg har advart dere i dag.

The LORD has spoken to you, remnant of Judah: Do not go to Egypt. Be certain of this: I have warned you today.

For dere har bedratt deres egne sjeler når dere sendte meg til Herren deres Gud, og sa: 'Be for oss til Herren vår Gud, og alt som Herren vår Gud sier, fortell oss, så vil vi gjøre det.'

For you have deceived yourselves when you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, 'Pray to the LORD our God for us, and whatever the LORD our God says, tell us and we will do it.'

I dag har jeg fortalt dere, men dere har ikke lyttet til Herrens, deres Guds, stemme eller alt det han har sendt meg til dere med.

I have told you today, but you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God or anything He has sent me to tell you.

Så dere må vite klart at dere skal dø ved sverdet, hungersnøden og pesten på det stedet hvor dere ønsker å dra for å bo.»

Now therefore be certain of this: You will die by the sword, famine, and plague in the place where you desire to go to settle.
