David sa: Er det noen igjen av Sauls hus, som jeg kan vise godhet for Jonatans skyld?

And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?

Det var en av Sauls tjenere som hette Siba, og de kalte ham fram til David. Kongen sa til ham: Er du Siba? Han svarte: Din tjener er han.

And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba, and they called him unto David; and the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he.

Kongen sa: Er det ikke noen igjen av Sauls hus, som jeg kan vise Guds godhet mot? Siba svarte kongen: Jonathan har en sønn som er lam i begge føtter.

And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, who is lame of his feet.

Kongen spurte: Hvor er han? Siba svarte: Han er i huset til Makir, Ammiels sønn, i Lo-Debar.

And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.

Da sendte kong David og hentet ham fra huset til Makir, Ammiels sønn, i Lo-Debar.

Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar.

Mephiboshet, Jonatans sønn, Sauls sønn, kom til David og kastet seg ned med ansiktet mot jorden og tilba. David sa: Mephiboshet! Han svarte: Her er din tjener.

And Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came unto David, and fell on his face, and did obeisance. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold, thy servant!

David sa til ham: Frykt ikke, for jeg vil vise deg godhet for din far Jonatans skyld og gi deg tilbake all Sauls jord, din farfar. Du skal alltid spise ved mitt bord.

And David said unto him, Fear not; for I will surely show thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.

Han kastet seg ned og sa: Hva er din tjener, at du ser til en død hund som meg?

And he did obeisance, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?

Da kalte kongen på Siba, Sauls tjener, og sa til ham: Alt som tilhørte Saul og hele hans hus har jeg gitt til din herres sønn.

Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said unto him, All that pertained to Saul and to all his house have I given unto thy master's son.

Du, dine sønner og dine tjenere skal drive jorden for ham og sørge for at din herres sønn har mat, men Mephiboshet, din herres sønn, skal alltid spise ved mitt bord. Siba hadde femten sønner og tjue tjenere.

And thou shalt till the land for him, thou, and thy sons, and thy servants; and thou shalt bring in `the fruits', that thy master's son may have bread to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

Siba sa til kongen: Etter alt det min herre kongen har befalt sin tjener, så skal din tjener gjøre. Hva angår Mephiboshet, sa kongen, han skal spise ved mitt bord som en av kongens sønner.

Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king commandeth his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, `said the king', he shall eat at my table, as one of the king's sons.

Mephiboshet hadde en ung sønn som het Mika. Alle som bodde i Sibas hus, var tjenere for Mephiboshet.

And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Mica. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.

Mephiboshet bodde i Jerusalem; for han spiste alltid ved kongens bord. Han var lam i begge føtter.

So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem; for he did eat continually at the king's table. And he was lame in both his feet.
