Enhver som tror at Jesus er Kristus, er født av Gud. Og enhver som elsker den som har født, elsker også den som er blitt født av ham.

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves His child as well.

Ved dette vet vi at vi elsker Guds barn: når vi elsker Gud og holder hans bud.

This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and keeping His commandments.

For dette er kjærligheten til Gud: at vi holder hans bud. Og hans bud er ikke tunge.

For this is the love of God: that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

For alt som er født av Gud, overvinner verden. Og dette er seieren som har overvunnet verden: vår tro.

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith.

Hvem er det som overvinner verden, uten den som tror at Jesus er Guds Sønn?

Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

Han er den som kom ved vann og blod, Jesus Kristus; ikke bare ved vann, men ved vann og blod. Og Ånden vitner, fordi Ånden er sannheten.

This is the One who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit testifies to this, because the Spirit is the truth.

For det er tre som vitner i himmelen: Faderen, Ordet og Den hellige ånd. Og disse tre er ett.

For there are three that testify in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

Og det er tre som vitner på jorden: Ånden, vannet og blodet; og disse tre er i enighet.

And there are three that testify on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree in one.

Hvis vi godtar menneskers vitnesbyrd, så er Guds vitnesbyrd større; for dette er Guds vitnesbyrd som han har vitnet om sin Sønn.

If we accept human testimony, God’s testimony is greater, because it is the testimony of God which He has given about His Son.

Den som tror på Guds Sønn, har vitnesbyrdet i seg. Den som ikke tror Gud, har gjort ham til en løgner, fordi han ikke har trodd på vitnesbyrdet som Gud har gitt om sin Sønn.

Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within them. Whoever does not believe God has made Him a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about His Son.

Og dette er vitnesbyrdet: at Gud har gitt oss evig liv, og dette livet er i hans Sønn.

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

Den som har Sønnen, har livet; den som ikke har Guds Sønn, har ikke livet.

Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Dette har jeg skrevet til dere som tror på Guds Sønns navn, for at dere skal vite at dere har evig liv, og for at dere skal tro på Guds Sønns navn.

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know you have eternal life, and so that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Og dette er den frimodighet vi har overfor ham, at hvis vi ber om noe etter hans vilje, så hører han oss.

This is the confidence we have before Him: If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

Og hvis vi vet at han hører oss, uansett hva vi ber om, da vet vi at vi har fått det vi har bedt ham om.

And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we already have what we have asked of Him.

Hvis noen ser sin bror begå en synd som ikke fører til døden, skal han be, og han vil gi liv til ham, til dem som ikke synder til døden. Det finnes en synd som fører til døden; om den sier jeg ikke at han skal be.

If anyone sees a brother or sister committing a sin that does not lead to death, they should pray, and God will give life to them—those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death; I am not saying that one should pray about that.

All urettferdighet er synd, men det finnes synd som ikke fører til døden.

All wrongdoing is sin, and yet there is sin that does not lead to death.

Vi vet at enhver som er født av Gud, ikke fortsetter å synde; men han som ble født av Gud, holder seg selv, og den onde rører ham ikke.

We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.

Vi vet at vi er av Gud, og at hele verden ligger i det onde.

We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

Vi vet også at Guds Sønn er kommet og har gitt oss forstand, så vi kjenner ham som er sann; og vi er i den sanne, i hans Sønn Jesus Kristus. Han er den sanne Gud og evig liv.

We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true. And we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
