When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, "I am God Almighty; walk before Me faithfully and be blameless."

Jeg vil opprette min pakt mellom meg og deg, og jeg vil gjøre din ætt meget tallrik.

I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will greatly multiply you.

Da falt Abram ned på sitt ansikt, og Gud talte med ham og sa:

Abram fell facedown, and God spoke with him, saying,

Dette er min pakt med deg: Du skal bli far til mange folkeslag.

"As for Me, this is My covenant with you: You will be the father of a multitude of nations.

Du skal ikke lenger hete Abram, men ditt navn skal være Abraham, for jeg vil gjøre deg til far for mange folkeslag.

No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you the father of many nations.

Jeg vil gjøre deg meget fruktbar og gjøre deg til nasjoner, og konger skal komme fra deg.

I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations come from you, and kings will be among your descendants.

Og jeg vil opprette min pakt mellom meg og deg og din ætt etter deg i deres generasjoner, en evig pakt, for å være Gud for deg og din ætt etter deg.

I will establish My covenant as an everlasting covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.

Jeg gir deg og din ætt etter deg landet hvor du bor, hele Kanaans land, til evig eiendom, og jeg vil være deres Gud.

And I will give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are now living as a foreigner—all the land of Canaan—as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

Gud sa videre til Abraham: Du skal holde min pakt, du og din ætt etter deg, gjennom alle deres generasjoner.

Then God said to Abraham, "As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come.

Dette er min pakt, som dere skal holde, mellom meg og dere og din ætt etter deg: Hver mannskjønn blant dere skal bli omskåret.

This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised.

Dere skal la kroppen deres omskjæres, og det skal være et tegn på pakten mellom meg og dere.

You are to circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it will be the sign of the covenant between Me and you.

Når guttene er åtte dager gamle, skal de bli omskåret, generasjon etter generasjon, også de som er født i huset ditt eller kjøpt med penger fra en fremmed, som ikke er av din ætt.

Every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, both those born in your household and those bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant.

Every male born in your household or bought with your money must be circumcised. Thus, My covenant will be in your flesh as an everlasting covenant.

Den uomskårne, den mannlige som ikke lar sin forhud omskjære, skal utelukkes fra sitt folk, for han har brutt min pakt.

But any uncircumcised male who has not been circumcised in the flesh will be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.

Gud sa til Abraham: Din kone Sarai skal du ikke lenger kalle Sarai, men Sara skal være hennes navn.

Then God said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah.

Jeg vil velsigne henne og gi deg en sønn ved henne. Jeg vil velsigne henne, og hun skal bli til folkeslag, og konger over folkeslag skal komme fra henne.

I will bless her and surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will become the mother of nations; kings of peoples will descend from her.

Da falt Abraham ned på sitt ansikt og lo og sa i sitt hjerte: Kan en mann som er hundre år gammel få barn, og kan Sara som er nitti år føde?

Abraham fell facedown and laughed, saying to himself, "Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Can Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?"

Og Abraham sa til Gud: Måtte Ismael få leve for ditt ansikt!

And Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael might live under Your blessing!"

Men Gud sa: Sannelig, Sara din hustru skal føde deg en sønn, og du skal kalle ham Isak. Jeg vil opprette min pakt med ham som en evig pakt for hans ætt etter ham.

Then God said, "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.

Hva angår Ismael, så har jeg hørt deg. Se, jeg har velsignet ham, og jeg vil gjøre ham fruktbar og gjøre ham meget tallrik. Tolv høvdinger skal han få, og jeg vil gjøre ham til et stort folk.

As for Ishmael, I have heard you. I will bless him; I will make him fruitful and greatly multiply his descendants. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation.

Men min pakt vil jeg opprette med Isak, som Sara skal føde for deg på denne tid neste år.

But I will establish My covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year.

Da han var ferdig med å tale med ham, fór Gud opp fra Abraham.

When He had finished speaking with Abraham, God ascended from him.

Så tok Abraham sin sønn Ismael og alle som var født i hans hus, og alle som var kjøpt for hans penger, hver mannskjønn blant mennene i Abrahams hus, og han omskar deres forhud på samme dag som Gud hadde sagt til ham.

On that very day, Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or bought with his money—every male among the members of Abraham’s household—and circumcised them, as God had told him.

Og Abraham var nittini år gammel da hans forhud ble omskåret.

Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

Og hans sønn Ismael var tretten år gammel da hans forhud ble omskåret.

And his son Ishmael was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

På samme dag ble Abraham og hans sønn Ismael omskåret.

On that very day, Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised.

Og alle mennene i hans hus, de som var født i huset og de som var kjøpt for penger fra en fremmed, ble omskåret sammen med ham.

And all the men of his household, whether born in his house or bought with money from a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
