When mankind began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born to them,

the sons of God saw that the daughters of humanity were beautiful, and they took wives for themselves from whomever they chose.

Da sa Herren: Min Ånd skal ikke alltid stride med menneskene, for de er kjøtt. Deres dager skal være 120 år.

Then the Lord said, "My Spirit will not contend with humanity forever, because they are flesh; their days will be 120 years."

I de dager, og også senere, fantes det kjemper på jorden, da Guds sønner gikk inn til menneskenes døtre og disse fødte dem barn. Det var de kjente kjemper fra gammel tid.

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humanity and had children by them. They were the mighty men of old, men of renown.

Herren så at menneskenes ondskap på jorden var stor, og at alt deres hjertes tanker og hensikter bare var onde hele tiden.

The Lord saw how great the wickedness of humanity had become on the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of their heart was only evil continually.

The Lord regretted that He had made humanity on the earth, and it deeply grieved Him.

Herren sa: Jeg vil utslette menneskene som jeg har skapt, over hele jorden, mennesker, dyr, kryp og fugler, for jeg angrer at jeg har gjort dem.

So the Lord said, "I will wipe out humanity, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—humans, along with the animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky—for I regret that I have made them."

Men Noah fant nåde for Herrens øyne.

But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

Dette er historien om Noah. Noah var en rettferdig mann og var uklanderlig blant sine samtidige. Noah vandret med Gud.

These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among his peers. Noah walked faithfully with God.

Noah fikk tre sønner: Sem, Kam og Jafet.

Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Jorden var fordervet i Guds øyne og full av vold.

Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence.

Gud så på jorden, og se, den var fordervet, for alt kjøtt hadde fordervet sin vei på jorden.

God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all flesh had ruined their way on the earth.

Gud sa til Noah: Jeg har bestemt enden for alt kjøtt, for jorden er full av vold på grunn av dem. Se, jeg vil ødelegge dem sammen med jorden.

Then God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, because the earth is filled with violence through them; behold, I am going to destroy them along with the earth.

Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make compartments in the ark and cover it inside and out with pitch.

And this is how you shall make it: the length of the ark shall be 300 cubits, its width 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits.

Lag et tak for arken, en alen fra toppen, og sett en dør i siden av arken. Lag den med nederste, andre og tredje dekke.

Make a window for the ark and finish it to a cubit from the top. Put a door on the side of the ark, and construct it with lower, second, and third decks.

Se, jeg vil bringe en stor flom med vann over jorden for å ødelegge alt levende under himmelen. Alt på jorden skal dø.

And I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh that has the breath of life in it, under the heavens; everything that is on the earth will perish.

But I will establish My covenant with you, and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you.

And of every living thing, of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.

Av fuglene etter deres slag, av husdyrene etter deres slag, av alle kryp på jorden etter deres slag, to av hvert skal komme til deg for å holdes i live.

From the birds according to their kinds, and from the animals according to their kinds, and from every creeping thing of the ground according to its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive.

Ta med deg alle slags mat som kan spises, samle den til deg, så den kan være mat for deg og dem.

Take with you every kind of food that is eaten and store it; it will serve as food for you and for them.

Noah gjorde dette, akkurat slik Gud hadde befalt ham.

And Noah did everything exactly as God commanded him.
