1 Herren talte til Moses og sa:

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

2 Lag deg to sølvbasuner, hamret ut av sølv skal du lage dem. De skal være til for å kalle sammen menigheten og for å få leirene til å bryte opp.

Make two silver trumpets for yourself; make them of hammered work. They shall be used for calling the assembly and for directing the movement of the camps.

3 Når man blåser i dem, skal hele menigheten samle seg hos deg ved inngangen til møteteltet.

When both are blown, the whole assembly shall gather to you at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.

4 Men hvis det blir blåst med bare én, skal lederne, høvdingene for Israels tusener, samle seg hos deg.

If only one is blown, then the leaders, the heads of Israel's clans, shall gather to you.

5 Når dere blåser støt, skal de leirene som ligger mot øst, bryte opp.

When you sound a trumpet blast, the camps on the east side shall set out.

6 Når dere blåser et annet støt, skal de leirene som ligger mot sør, bryte opp. Et støt skal blåses hver gang de bryter opp.

When you sound a second trumpet blast, the camps on the south side shall set out; a blast shall be sounded for their departure.

7 Når menigheten skal samles, skal dere blåse, men ikke støte.

When calling the assembly together, you shall blow the trumpets, but do not sound an alarm.

8 Det skal være prestene, Arons sønner, som skal blåse i basunene. Dette skal være en evig forskrift for dere, gjennom alle deres slekter.

The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets. This shall be a lasting statute for you throughout your generations.

9 Når dere går til krig i deres land mot fienden som angriper dere, skal dere blåse alarm med basunene. Da skal dere bli husket for Herrens ansikt, deres Gud, og bli frelst fra fiendene deres.

When you go into battle in your land against an enemy who oppresses you, you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, so that you might be remembered before the LORD your God and be saved from your enemies.

10 På deres gledens dager og høytider og ved begynnelsen av deres måneder skal dere blåse i basunene over brennofferne deres og over fredsofferne deres. Dette skal minne dere foran deres Gud. Jeg er Herren deres Gud.

Also, on the day of your rejoicing, at your appointed festivals, and at the beginning of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and your peace offerings; they will serve as a reminder for you before your God. I am the LORD your God.

In the second year, on the twentieth day of the second month, the cloud was lifted from over the Tabernacle of the Testimony.

Then the Israelites set out on their journeys from the Wilderness of Sinai, and the cloud settled in the Wilderness of Paran.

They set out for the first time according to the command of the LORD by Moses.

14 Judas barns leirs banner brøt opp først etter deres hæravdelinger, og Nahshon, Amminadabs sønn, førte deres hær.

The banner of the camp of the sons of Judah set out first, according to their divisions, with Nahshon son of Amminadab leading them.

15 Og over hæren til issakars stamme var Netanel, Suars sønn.

Over the division of the tribe of the sons of Issachar was Nethanel son of Zuar.

16 Og over hæren til Sebulons stamme var Eliab, Helons sønn.

Over the division of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun was Eliab son of Helon.

17 Så ble tabernaklet tatt ned, og Gersons sønner og Meraris sønner, som bar tabernaklet, brøt opp.

Then the Tabernacle was taken down, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, who carried the Tabernacle, set out.

18 Deretter brøt Rubens barns leirs banner opp etter deres hæravdelinger, og Elisur, Shedeurs sønn, førte deres hær.

The banner of the camp of Reuben set out, according to their divisions, with Elizur son of Shedeur in command.

19 Og over hæren til Simeons stamme var Shelumiel, Surisaddais sønn.

Over the division of the tribe of the sons of Simeon was Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai.

20 Og over hæren til Gads stamme var Eliasaf, Deuels sønn.

Over the division of the tribe of the sons of Gad was Eliasaph son of Deuel.

21 Da brøt kohatittene opp, de som bar helligdommen, mens man satte opp tabernaklet til deres ankomst.

Then the Kohathites, who carried the holy things, set out; the Tabernacle was to be set up before their arrival.

22 Deretter brøt Efraims barns leirs banner opp etter deres hæravdelinger, og Elisjama, Ammihuds sønn, førte deres hær.

The banner of the camp of Ephraim set out, according to their divisions, with Elishama son of Ammihud in command.

23 Og over hæren til Manasses stamme var Gamliel, Pedahzurs sønn.

Over the division of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh was Gamaliel son of Pedahzur.

24 Og over hæren til Benjamins stamme var Abidan, Gideonis sønn.

Over the division of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin was Abidan son of Gideoni.

25 Deretter brøt Dans barns leirs banner opp som den bakre for alle leirene etter deres hæravdelinger, og Ahi’ezer, Ammishaddaies sønn, førte deres hær.

The banner of the camp of Dan, serving as the rear guard for all the camps, set out, according to their divisions, with Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai in command.

26 Og over hæren til Ashers stamme var Pag’iel, Okrans sønn.

Over the division of the tribe of the sons of Asher was Pagiel son of Ocran.

27 Og over hæren til Naftalis stamme var Ahira, Enans sønn.

Over the division of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali was Ahira son of Enan.

28 Dette var Israels barns reise etter deres hæravdelinger. Så brøt leirene opp.

This was the order of the journeys of the Israelites according to their divisions as they set out.

29 Moses sa til Hobab, sønn av Reuel, midjanitten, Moses' svigerfar: Vi drar til det stedet som Herren har sagt: Jeg vil gi dere. Bli med oss, så vil vi gjøre godt mot deg, for Herren har lovet godt for Israel.

Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law: "We are setting out for the place about which the LORD said, 'I will give it to you.' Come with us, and we will treat you well, for the LORD has promised good things for Israel."

30 Men han svarte: Jeg vil ikke dra, men heller til mitt eget land og til min slekt vil jeg dra.

But he replied to him, "I will not go; I am going back to my own land and to my relatives."

31 Da sa Moses: Ikke forlat oss, vær så snill, for du vet hvordan vi skal slå leir i ørkenen, og du kan være våre øyne.

Moses said, "Please do not leave us, because you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will be our eyes.

32 Hvis du blir med oss, skal vi la det gode som Herren gjør mot oss, også komme deg til gode.

If you come with us, we will share with you whatever good things the LORD gives to us."

33 Så brøt de opp fra Herrens fjell, tre dagsreiser unna, og Herrens paktsark dro foran dem på veien tre dager for å finne et hvilested for dem.

So they set out from the mountain of the LORD and traveled for three days. During those three days, the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD went ahead of them to search out a resting place for them.

34 Herrens sky var over dem om dagen når de brøt opp fra leiren.

By day, the cloud of the LORD was over them as they set out from the camp.

35 Når arken satte i gang, sa Moses: Reis deg, Herre, la dine fiender bli spredt, og la de som hater deg, flykte for ditt ansikt.

Whenever the Ark set out, Moses would say, "Arise, LORD! Let your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate you flee before you."

36 Når den hvilte, sa han: Vend tilbake, Herre, til Israels tusener.

And whenever it came to rest, he would say, "Return, LORD, to the countless thousands of Israel."
