Then the LORD said to Aaron, 'You, your sons, and your father's family with you will bear the responsibility for offenses related to the sanctuary. Also, you and your sons with you will bear the responsibility for offenses connected to your priesthood.'

2 Også dine brødre, Levi stamme, din fars stamme, skal du føre nær til deg, og de skal følge deg. De skal tjene deg, men du og dine sønner med deg skal være foran vitnesbyrdets telt.

Bring your brothers from the tribe of Levi, your ancestral tribe, to join you and assist you while you and your sons serve before the tent of the testimony.

3 De skal holde vakt for dine plikter og for alt det som angår teltet. Men til de hellige karene og til alteret skal de ikke komme nær, for at de og dere ikke skal dø.

They are to guard your duties and the duties of the entire tent, but they must not come near the sacred furnishings or the altar, so they will not die—and neither will you.

4 De skal slutte seg til deg og holde vakt over møteteltet for alt arbeidet som gjelder teltet, men en fremmed må ikke komme nær dere.

They are to join you and take responsibility for the care of the tent of meeting, performing all its service. No unauthorized person may come near you.

5 Dere skal holde oppsyn med det hellige og med alteret, så det ikke igjen kommer vrede over Israels barn.

You are to perform the duties of the sanctuary and the altar, so that no further wrath will fall on the Israelites.

6 Se, Jeg har tatt deres brødre, levittene, fra Israels barn. De er gitt til dere som en gave for Herren, for å gjøre tjeneste i møteteltet.

I myself have chosen your brothers, the Levites, from among the Israelites as a gift to you, dedicated to the LORD for their service at the tent of meeting.

7 Men du og dine sønner med deg skal ta vare på deres prestetjeneste i alt som gjelder alteret og det innenfor forhenget. Dere skal gjøre tjenesten. Jeg gir dere deres prestetjeneste som en gave, men den fremmede som kommer nær, skal dø.

But you and your sons with you are to diligently guard your priestly duties for every aspect of the altar and the area behind the curtain. I have given your priesthood to you as a service of gift. Any unauthorized person who approaches shall be put to death.

8 Herren talte til Aron: Se, Jeg har gitt deg ansvaret for Mine offergaver. Alle de hellige gaver fra Israels barn har Jeg gitt deg og dine sønner som en evig rett.

The LORD said to Aaron, 'See, I have placed you in charge of the contributions given to me and all the sacred offerings of the Israelites. I give them to you and your sons as a portion, a permanent statute.'

9 Dette skal være ditt fra de høyhellige gaver, fra ilden: Alle deres offergaver, alle deres grødeoffer, og alle deres syndoffer og skyldoffer som de bringer tilbake til Meg, skal være høyhellig for deg og dine sønner.

'You are to receive the most holy offerings, including every grain offering, sin offering, and guilt offering that they return to me. These most holy offerings belong to you and your sons.'

10 I det høyhellige rommet skal du spise det. Hver mann blant dere kan spise det. Det skal være hellig for deg.

'You must eat it in a most holy place. Every male may eat it; it is holy to you.'

11 Også dette er ditt: Gaven av deres løftede offer fra Israels barn. Jeg har gitt disse til deg og dine sønner og døtre med deg som en evig rett. Enhver som er ren i ditt hus, kan spise det.

'This also is yours: the contributions and wave offerings presented by the Israelites. I give these to you, your sons, and your daughters with you as a perpetual ordinance. Everyone in your household who is ceremonially clean may eat of it.'

12 Alt det beste av olje og alt det beste av ny vin og korn, de førstefruktene som de gir til Herren, har Jeg gitt deg.

'I give you the finest olive oil, new wine, and grain—the firstfruits they offer to the LORD.'

13 De første fruktene fra alt som dyrkes i deres land, som de bringer til Herren, skal være dine. Enhver som er ren i ditt hus, kan spise dem.

'The first ripe produce of all that is in their land, which they bring to the LORD, shall be yours. Everyone in your household who is ceremonially clean may eat of it.'

14 Alt bannlyst i Israel skal være ditt.

'Everything in Israel that is devoted to the LORD shall be yours.'

15 Alt som åpner morslivet, av alt kjøtt som de bringer til Herren, både av mennesker og dyr, skal være ditt. Men førstefødt menneske skal du løskjøpe, og førstefødt av det urene dyret skal du løskjøpe.

Every firstborn that opens the womb, of all flesh offered to the LORD, whether human or animal, shall belong to you. However, you must surely redeem the firstborn of humans and redeem the firstborn of unclean animals.

16 Og de som skal løskjøpes, skal løskjøpes fra en måneds alder etter din verdsetting, for fem sjekel sølv etter helligdommens vekt, som er tjue gera.

When they are a month old, you shall redeem them at your valuation, which is five shekels of silver, measured by the sanctuary shekel—twenty gerahs make a shekel.

17 Men det førstefødte av okse, eller det førstefødte av sau, eller det førstefødte av geit skal du ikke løskjøpe. De er hellige. Deres blod skal du sprenge mot alteret, og deres fett skal du brenne til et ildoffer, en velbehagelig duft for Herren.

But you must not redeem the firstborn of an ox, a sheep, or a goat. They are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar and burn their fat as a fire offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

18 Kjøttet deres skal være ditt. Det skal være som brystet av vifteofferet og høyre lår. Det skal være ditt.

Their meat shall be yours, just like the breast of the wave offering and the right thigh are yours.

19 Alle de hellige gavene som Israels barn bringer som løftet offer til Herren, har Jeg gitt deg, dine sønner og døtre med deg, som en evig rett. Det er en evig saltpakt for Herren for deg og ditt ættledd med deg.

All the holy contributions the Israelites present to the LORD, I give to you, your sons, and your daughters with you as a perpetual ordinance. It is an everlasting covenant of salt before the LORD for you and your descendants with you.

20 Herren sa til Aron: I deres land skal du ikke ha arv, og ingen del skal være din blant dem. Jeg er din del og din arv blant Israels barn.

The LORD said to Aaron: You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and inheritance among the Israelites.

21 Se, til Levis barn har Jeg gitt alle tiender i Israel som arv, i gjengjeld for den tjeneste de utfører i møteteltet.

To the Levites, I have given every tithe in Israel as their inheritance in return for the work they do while serving at the tent of meeting.

22 Slik skal Israels barn ikke mer komme nær møteteltet, for at de ikke skal bære synd og dø.

From now on, the Israelites must not go near the tent of meeting, or they will bear the consequences of their sin and die.

23 Bare levittene skal utføre tjenesten i møteteltet. De skal bære sin skyld. Dette skal være en evig forskrift for deres generasjoner. Men de skal ikke ha noe arv blant Israels barn.

The Levites shall perform the duties of the tent of meeting and bear the responsibility for their sins. This is a perpetual ordinance for your generations, but they shall not have any inheritance among the Israelites.

24 For tienden av Israels barn, som de løfter opp som offergave til Herren, har Jeg gitt til levittene som arv. Derfor har Jeg sagt til dem: Blant Israels barn skal de ikke ha arv.

For I have given the Levites the tithes that the Israelites present as a contribution to the LORD as their inheritance. That is why I told them they shall have no inheritance among the Israelites.

25 Herren talte til Moses og sa:

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

26 Og du skal tale til levittene og si til dem: Når dere tar imot tienden fra Israels barn, som Jeg har gitt dere som deres arv, så skal dere løfte opp en offergave til Herren, en tiendedel av tienden.

Speak to the Levites and say to them: When you receive from the Israelites the tithe I have given you as your inheritance, you must present a contribution from it to the LORD—a tithe of the tithe.

27 Og offergaven deres skal regnes som korn fra treskeplassen og som fylde fra vinpressen.

Your contribution will be credited to you as though it were the grain from the threshing floor or the fullness from the wine press.

28 Slik skal også dere løfte opp Herrens offergave av alle tiender som dere mottar fra Israels barn, og av dette skal dere gi Herrens offergave til Aron, presten.

In the same way, you shall also present an offering to the LORD from all the tithes you receive from the Israelites. From these, you are to give the LORD’s portion to Aaron the priest.

29 Av alle deres gaver skal dere løfte opp Herrens offergave, det beste av dem, den hellige delen av det.

Out of all your gifts, you must present the very best part, the sacred portion, as an offering to the LORD.

30 Og du skal si til dem: Når dere løfter opp det beste av det, skal det regnes for levittene som avlingen fra treskeplassen og som innhøstingen fra vinpressen.

Say to the Levites: When you present the best of it, it will be credited to you, as if it were the produce of the threshing floor and the produce of the wine press.

31 Det kan dere spise hvor som helst, dere og deres husholdning, for det er lønnen for deres tjeneste i møteteltet.

You and your households may eat it anywhere, as it is your wages in return for your service in the tent of meeting.

32 Dere skal ikke bære skyld for noe av det så lenge dere løfter opp det beste av det. Dere skal heller ikke vanhellige Israels barns hellige gaver, for da skal dere dø.

You will not bear any sin by bringing the best of it, but you must not desecrate the sacred gifts of the Israelites, or you will die.
