Meanwhile, the Egyptians were burying all their firstborn, whom the LORD had struck down among them, and the LORD had also executed judgments against their gods.

44 Deretter slo de leir ved Ijje-Haabarim, ved Moabs grense.

51 Tal til israelittene og si til dem: Når dere går over Jordan til Kanaan,

'Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan,

52 da skal dere drive ut alle landets innbyggere foran dere. Dere skal ødelegge alle deres steinbilder, alle deres støpte gudebilder skal dere knuse, og alle deres offerhauger skal dere legge øde.

you must drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you, destroy all their stone images and cast idols, and demolish all their high places.

53 Dere skal ta landet i eie og bo i det, for til dere har jeg gitt landet til eiendom.

You shall take possession of the land and live in it, for I have given you the land to possess.

54 Dere skal dele landet mellom deres slekter ved loddkasting. For de store slektene skal dere gi en større arv, og for de små slektene en mindre arv. Der loddet faller for hver, der skal han være. Dere skal dele landet etter deres fedres stammer.

You shall apportion the land by lot according to your clans. You shall give more to the larger groups and less to the smaller groups. The place where the lot falls for each shall be theirs. You shall divide land according to the tribes of your ancestors.

55 Men hvis dere ikke driver ut landets innbyggere foran dere, skal de som dere lar bli igjen, bli torner i deres øyne og brodder i deres sider. De skal plage dere i landet der dere bor.

But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they will harass you in the land where you live.

56 Og det jeg hadde tenkt å gjøre med dem, det skal jeg gjøre med dere.

And what I had planned to do to them, I will do to you.
