1 Han viste meg en ren elv med livets vann, klar som krystall, som strømmet ut fra Guds og Lammets trone.

Then the angel showed me a pure river of the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.

2 Midt på byens gate, på begge sider av elven, var livets tre, som bar tolv slags frukt, en for hver måned, og treets blader var til legedom for folkene.

In the middle of the city’s street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, producing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

3 Det skal ikke lenger være noe forbannet. Guds og Lammets trone skal være der, og Hans tjenere skal tjene Ham.

There will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will worship him.

4 De skal se Hans ansikt, og Hans navn skal være på deres panner.

They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

5 Det skal ikke være natt der, og de har ikke behov for lys fra lampe eller solens lys, for Herren Gud vil gi dem lys. Og de skal herske i all evighet.

There will no longer be any night, and they will not need the light of a lamp or the sun, for the Lord God will give them light, and they will reign forever and ever.

6 Og han sa til meg: Disse ordene er troverdige og sanne. Herren Gud, de hellige profeters Gud, har sendt Sin engel for å vise sine tjenere det som snart må skje.

The angel said to me, "These words are faithful and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place."

7 Se, jeg kommer snart! Salig er den som holder fast på profetiens ord i denne boken.

Behold, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this book.

8 Jeg, Johannes, er den som så og hørte dette. Og da jeg hadde hørt og sett det, falt jeg ned for å tilbe foran føttene til engelen som viste meg dette.

I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me.

9 Men han sa til meg: Se til at du ikke gjør det! Jeg er en medtjener med deg og dine brødre profetene og dem som holder fast på ordene i denne boken. Tilbe Gud!

But he said to me, "See that you don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers the prophets and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!"

10 Og han sa til meg: Forsegl ikke profetiens ord i denne boken, for tiden er nær.

Then he said to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near.

11 Den som gjør urett, la ham fortsette med det, og den urene, la ham forbli uren; den rettferdige, la ham fortsette å gjøre rett, og den hellige, la ham fortsette å bli hellig.

Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the righteous continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy."

12 Se, jeg kommer snart, og min lønn er med meg, for å gi hver og en lønn etter hans gjerning.

Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.

13 Jeg er Alfa og Omega, den første og den siste, begynnelsen og enden.

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

14 Salige er de som vasker sine kapper, så de kan ha rett til livets tre og få gå gjennom portene inn i byen.

Blessed are those who keep His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by its gates.

15 Utenfor er de hunder, trollmenn, de som lever i hor, mordere, avgudsdyrkere og enhver som elsker og gjør løgn.

Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

16 Jeg, Jesus, har sendt min engel for å vitne om disse tingene for dere i menighetene. Jeg er Davids rot og ætt, den klare morgenstjerne.

I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to these things for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star.

17 Ånden og bruden sier: Kom! Den som hører det, la ham si: Kom! Den som tørster, la ham komme. Den som vil, la ham ta livets vann for intet.

The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let the one who hears say, "Come!" Let the one who is thirsty come, and let the one who desires take the water of life freely.

18 Jeg vitner for enhver som hører ordene i denne profetiboken: Hvis noen legger noe til, vil Gud legge på ham de plagene som er beskrevet i denne boken.

I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to these words, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book.

19 Og hvis noen tar noe bort fra ordene i denne profetiboken, vil Gud ta bort hans del fra livets tre og fra den hellige byen, som er beskrevet i denne boken.

And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away their share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

20 Han som vitner om dette, sier: Ja, jeg kommer snart. Amen. Ja, kom, Herre Jesus!

He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
