Paul, called `to be' an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

unto the church of God which is at Corinth, `even' them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called `to be' saints, with all that call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, their `Lord' and ours:

3 Nåde være med dere og fred fra Gud vår Far og Herren Jesus Kristus.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

4 Jeg takker alltid min Gud for dere, for Guds nåde som ble gitt dere i Kristus Jesus;

I thank my God always concerning you, for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus;

5 at dere i alt er blitt rike i ham, i all tale og all kunnskap;

that in everything ye were enriched in him, in all utterance and all knowledge;

6 slik at Kristi vitnesbyrd er blitt stadfestet hos dere:

even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:

7 så dere ikke mangler noen gave mens dere venter på vår Herre Jesu Kristi åpenbarelse;

so that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ;

8 han som også skal stadfeste dere til enden, så dere er ulastelige på vår Herre Jesu Kristi dag.

who shall also confirm you unto the end, `that ye be' unreproveable in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 Gud er trofast, han som kalte dere til fellesskap med sin Sønn, Jesus Kristus, vår Herre.

God is faithful, through whom ye were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

10 Jeg formaner dere, brødre, ved vår Herre Jesu Kristi navn, at dere alle skal tale det samme og at det ikke skal være splittelser blant dere, men at dere skal være forenet i samme sinn og samme mening.

Now I beseech you, brethren, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing and `that' there be no divisions among you; but `that' ye be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

11 For det er blitt meddelt meg om dere, mine brødre, av dem som hører til Chloes husstand, at det er stridigheter blant dere.

For it hath been signified unto me concerning you, my brethren, by them `that are of the household' of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

Now this I mean, that each one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos: and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

13 Er Kristus delt? Ble Paulus korsfestet for dere? Eller ble dere døpt til Paulus' navn?

Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized into the name of Paul?

14 Jeg takker Gud for at jeg ikke døpte noen av dere, unntatt Crispus og Gaius;

I thank God that I baptized none of you, save Crispus and Gaius;

15 så ingen kan si at dere ble døpt til mitt navn.

lest any man should say that ye were baptized into my name.

16 Jeg døpte også Stefanas' husstand; ellers vet jeg ikke om jeg har døpt noen andre.

And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.

17 For Kristus sendte meg ikke for å døpe, men for å forkynne evangeliet; ikke med visdoms ord, for at Kristi kors ikke skal bli uten kraft.

For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not in wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made void.

18 For ordet om korset er for dem som går fortapt, dårskap, men for oss som blir frelst, er det Guds kraft.

For the word of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us who are saved it is the power of God.

19 For det står skrevet: Jeg vil ødelegge de vises visdom og tilintetgjøre de klokes forstand.

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the discernment of the discerning will I bring to nought.

20 Hvor er den vise? Hvor er den skriftlærde? Hvor er denne verdens disputer? Har ikke Gud gjort denne verdens visdom til dårskap?

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

21 Siden verden ikke gjennom sin visdom kjente Gud i Guds visdom, fant Gud det godt å frelse dem som tror ved forkynnelsens dårskap.

For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom knew not God, it was God's good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe.

22 Jøder ber om tegn, og grekere søker visdom;

Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom:

23 men vi forkynner Kristus korsfestet, for jøder en snublesten, og for hedninger dårskap;

but we preach Christ crucified, unto Jews a stumblingblock, and unto Gentiles foolishness;

24 men for dem som er kalt, både jøder og grekere, er Kristus Guds kraft og Guds visdom.

but unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

25 For Guds dårskap er visere enn menneskene, og Guds svakhet er sterkere enn menneskene.

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

26 For se deres kall, brødre, at ikke mange vise etter kjødet, ikke mange mektige, ikke mange høybårne, ble kalt;

For behold your calling, brethren, that not many wise after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, `are called':

27 men det som er dårskap i verden, utvalgte Gud for å gjøre de vise til skamme; og det som er svakt i verden, utvalgte Gud for å gjøre det sterke til skamme;

but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put to shame them that are wise; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong;

28 og det som er lavt i verden, og det som er foraktet, utvalgte Gud, ja, det som ikke er, for å gjøre til intet det som er,

and the base things of the world, and the things that are despised, did God choose, `yea' and the things that are not, that he might bring to nought the things that are:

29 for at intet kjød skal rose seg for Gud.

that no flesh should glory before God.

30 Men av ham er dere i Kristus Jesus, som ble for oss visdom fra Gud, rettferdighet og helliggjørelse og forløsningsg,

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who was made unto us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:

31 for at, som skrevet står: Den som roser seg, la ham rose seg i Herren.

that, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
