1 I det andre året til Joasj, sønn av Joahas, konge i Israel, begynte Amasja, sønn av Joasj, konge i Juda, å regjere.

In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel began Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah to reign.

2 Han var tjuefem år gammel da han begynte å regjere; og han regjerte i tjue-ni år i Jerusalem. Hans mor het Jehoaddin fra Jerusalem.

He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.

3 Han gjorde det som var rett i Herrens øyne, men ikke som David, hans forfar; han handlet som Joasj, hans far, hadde gjort.

And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, yet not like David his father: he did according to all that Joash his father had done.

4 Men offerhaugene ble ikke fjernet; folket fortsatte å ofre og brenne røkelse på høydene.

Howbeit the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

5 Da kongedømmet var godt befestet i hans hånd, drepte han tjenerne som hadde drept kongen, hans far.

And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he slew his servants who had slain the king his father:

6 Men barna til morderne drepte han ikke, som det står skrevet i Moseloven, at Herren befalte: Fedrene skal ikke dø for barna, heller ikke skal barna dø for fedrene; men hver skal dø for sin egen synd.

but the children of the murderers he put not to death; according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, as Jehovah commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.

7 Han slo Edom i Saltdalen, ti tusen menn, og tok Sela i krig, og kalte stedet Joktheel, som det heter til denne dag.

He slew of Edom in the Valley of Salt ten thousand, and took Sela by war, and called the name of it Joktheel, unto this day.

8 Deretter sendte Amasja budbringere til Joasj, sønn av Joahas, sønn av Jehu, konge i Israel, og sa: Kom, la oss møtes ansikt til ansikt.

Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.

9 Og Joasj, kongen i Israel, svarte Amasja, kongen i Juda: Tornen i Libanon sendte bud til sederen i Libanon og sa: Gi din datter til min sønn til hustru; men en villdyr i Libanon passerte forbi og trampet ned tornen.

And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trod down the thistle.

10 Du har slått Edom, og ditt hjerte har opphøyet deg. Fryd deg over din ære, men bli hjemme. Hvorfor vil du trosse ulykke, så du faller, både du og Juda med deg?

Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thy heart hath lifted thee up: glory thereof, and abide at home; for why shouldest thou meddle to `thy' hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

11 Men Amasja ville ikke høre. Så dro Joasj, kongen i Israel, opp, og han og Amasja, kongen i Juda, møttes ansikt til ansikt ved Betsemesj i Juda.

But Amaziah would not hear. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

12 Og Juda ble slått av Israel, og de flyktet hver til sitt telt.

And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.

13 Og Joasj, kongen i Israel, tok Amasja, kongen i Juda, sønn av Joasj, sønn av Ahazja, ved Betsemesj, og kom til Jerusalem, og brøt ned muren i Jerusalem fra Efraims port til hjørneporten, fire hundre alen.

And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

14 Han tok alt gullet og sølvet og alt som var i Herrens hus og skattene i kongens hus, også gisler, og vendte tilbake til Samaria.

And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king's house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

15 Resten av Joasjs gjerninger, alt han gjorde, hans makt og hvordan han kjempet mot Amasja, kongen i Juda, er de ikke nedtegnet i krønikene til kongene i Israel?

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16 Joasj sov med sine fedre og ble begravet i Samaria med kongene av Israel, og Jeroboam, hans sønn, ble konge etter ham.

And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.

17 Amasja, sønn av Joasj, konge i Juda, levde femten år etter at Joasj, sønn av Joahas, konge i Israel, var død.

And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

19 De sammensvor seg mot ham i Jerusalem, så han flyktet til Lakisj; men de sendte etter ham til Lakisj, og drepte ham der.

And they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

20 De brakte ham på hester og begravde ham i Jerusalem med hans fedre i Davids by.

And they brought him upon horses; and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

21 Hele folket i Juda tok Asarja, som var seksten år gammel, og gjorde ham til konge etter hans far Amasja.

And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin.

He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath unto the sea of the Arabah, according to the word of Jehovah, the God of Israel, which he spake by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gath-hepher.

26 Herren så Israels nød, som var svært bitter; ingen var stengt inne eller fri, og ingen hjalp Israel.

For Jehovah saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter; for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Israel.

27 Herren sa ikke at han ville utslette Israels navn under himmelen, men han frelste dem ved Jeroboams, Joasjs sønns, hånd.

And Jehovah said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven; but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, `which had belonged' to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

29 Jeroboam sov med sine fedre, kongene i Israel, og Sakarja, hans sønn, ble konge etter ham.

And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his stead.
