Etter Moses, Herrens tjeners død, talte Herren til Josva, Nuns sønn, Moses' tjener, og sa:

Now it came to pass after the death of Moses the servant of Jehovah, that Jehovah spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

Min tjener Moses er død; nå skal du reise deg, gå over Jordan, du og hele dette folket, til det landet jeg gir dem, Israels barn.

Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

Hvert sted dere setter deres fot, har jeg gitt dere, som jeg lovet Moses.

Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, to you have I given it, as I spake unto Moses.

Fra ørkenen og Libanon til den store elven, Eufratelven, hele hetittenes land, og til det store hav mot vest skal deres grense være.

From the wilderness, and this Lebanon, even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your border.

Ingen skal kunne stå imot deg alle dine levedager. Som jeg var med Moses, slik vil jeg være med deg; jeg svikter deg ikke og forlater deg ikke.

There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life. as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee; I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Vær modig og sterk, for du skal føre dette folket inn i landet som jeg lovet deres fedre å gi dem.

Be strong and of good courage; for thou shalt cause this people to inherit the land which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

Bare vær sterk og svært modig, så du holder fast på å følge hele loven, slik min tjener Moses befalte deg. Bøy ikke av fra den, verken til høyre eller venstre, så du har framgang overalt hvor du går.

Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest have good success whithersoever thou goest.

Denne lovboken skal ikke vike fra din munn, men du skal grunne på den dag og natt, så du passer på å gjøre alt som står skrevet i den. Da vil du ha fremgang og lykke på din vei.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate thereon day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Har jeg ikke befalt deg? Vær modig og sterk, vær ikke redd eller motløs. For Herren din Gud er med deg overalt hvor du går.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not affrighted, neither be thou dismayed: for Jehovah thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Så ga Josva befaling til folkets ledere og sa:

Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

Gå gjennom leiren og si til folket: Gjør dere klar med mat, for om tre dager skal dere krysse Jordan, for å innta det landet som Herren deres Gud gir dere til eiendom.

Pass through the midst of the camp, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye are to pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which Jehovah your God giveth you to possess it.

Til rubenittene, gadittene og den halve Manasse-stammen sa Josva:

And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,

Husk det ordet som Moses, Herrens tjener, befalte dere: Herren deres Gud gir dere ro og gir dere dette landet.

Remember the word which Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, saying, Jehovah your God giveth you rest, and will give you this land.

Deres koner, barn og buskap skal bli i landet Moses ga dere på den andre siden av Jordan, men dere, alle våpenføre menn, skal dra over foran deres brødre, godt rustet, og hjelpe dem;

Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall abide in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan; but ye shall pass over before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valor, and shall help them;

inntil Herren gir deres brødre ro, slik han har gitt dere, og også de har inntatt det landet som Herren deres Gud gir dem. Deretter skal dere vende tilbake til deres eget landsdel og nyte det, som Moses, Herrens tjener, ga dere på den andre siden av Jordan, mot øst.

until Jehovah have given your brethren rest, as `he hath given' you, and they also have possessed the land which Jehovah your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrising.

De svarte Josva og sa: Alt du har befalt oss, vil vi gjøre, og hvor enn du sender oss, vil vi gå.

And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou hast commanded us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us we will go.

Som vi lyttet til Moses i alt, vil vi også lytte til deg, bare Herren din Gud er med deg, slik han var med Moses.

According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only Jehovah thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

Hver den som gjør opprør mot dine befalinger og ikke hører på dine ord i alt du befaler ham, skal dø. Vær kun sterk og modig.

Whosoever he be that shall rebel against thy commandment, and shall not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of good courage.
