Da det skjedde at alle kongene i amorittenes land, som lå vest for Jordan, og alle kongene i kanaanittenes land ved havet, hørte hvordan Herren hadde tørket opp vannet i Jordan foran Israels barn inntil vi hadde gått over, smeltet deres hjerter, og det var ikke lenger noen ånd i dem, på grunn av Israels barn.

And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, that were by the sea, heard how that Jehovah had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

På den tiden sa Herren til Josva: Lag deg kniver av flint og omskjær Israels barn igjen, for andre gang.

At that time Jehovah said unto Joshua, Make thee knives of flint, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

Og Josva laget seg flintkniver og omskar Israels barn på forhudenes høyde.

And Joshua made him knives of lint, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

Og dette er grunnen til at Josva omskar dem: Alle folkene som hadde kommet ut av Egypt, alle menn, til og med alle krigsmenn, døde i ørkenen underveis etter at de kom ut av Egypt.

And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: all the people that came forth out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came forth out of Egypt.

For alle folkene som gikk ut var omskåret, men alle de som var født i ørkenen underveis etter at de hadde kommet ut av Egypt, hadde de ikke omskåret.

For all the people that came out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, they had not circumcised.

For Israels barn vandret førti år i ørkenen, til hele nasjonen, til og med krigsmennene som kom ut av Egypt, var omkommet, fordi de ikke hørte på Herrens røst: som Herren hadde sverget at han ikke ville la dem se landet som Herren hadde sverget å gi deres fedre, et land som flyter med melk og honning.

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the nation, even the men of war that came forth out of Egypt, were consumed, because they hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah: unto whom Jehovah sware that he would not let them see the land which Jehovah sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Og deres barn, som han oppreiste i deres sted, dem omskar Josva; for de var uomskåret, fordi de ikke hadde omskåret dem underveis.

And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them did Joshua circumcise: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

Og det skjedde, da de hadde omskåret hele nasjonen, at de ble værende i leiren til de hadde blitt helbredet.

And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the nation, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

Og Herren sa til Josva: I dag har jeg rullet bort Egypts forakt fra dere. Derfor ble stedet kalt Gilgal, til denne dag.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, unto this day.

Og Israels barn slo leir i Gilgal, og de feiret påsken på den fjortende dagen i måneden om kvelden på slettene ved Jeriko.

And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal; and they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

Og de spiste av landets avling dagen etter påsken, usyrede kaker og ristet korn, den samme dag.

And they did eat of the produce of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes and parched grain, in the selfsame day.

Og mannaen opphørte dagen etter at de hadde spist av landets avling; Israels barn hadde ikke manna lenger, men de spiste av landets frukt i Kanaan det året.

And the manna ceased on the morrow, after they had eaten of the produce of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

Og det skjedde, da Josva var ved Jeriko, at han løftet opp sine øyne og så, og se, en mann stod foran ham med et dradd sverd i hånden: og Josva gikk bort til ham og sa til ham: Er du for oss, eller for våre fiender?

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

Og han sa: Nei; men som fyrste over Herrens hær har jeg nå kommet. Og Josva falt ned på sitt ansikt til jorden, tilba og sa til ham: Hva sier min herre til sin tjener?

And he said, Nay; but `as' prince of the host of Jehovah am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?

Og fyrsten over Herrens hær sa til Josva: Ta av din sko fra din fot; for stedet du står på er hellig. Og Josva gjorde så.

And the prince of Jehovah's host said unto Joshua, Put off thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
