1 Overhodene for familiene til Gileads barn, sønnen til Makir, sønnen til Manasse, av slektene til Josefs sønner, kom fram og talte foran Moses og foran lederne, overhodene for Israels barns familier.

And the heads of the fathers' `houses' of the family of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near, and spake before Moses, and before the princes, the heads of the fathers' `houses' of the children of Israel:

2 Og de sa: Herren befalte min herre å gi landet i arv ved lodd til Israels barn, og min herre ble pålagt av Herren å gi arven etter Selofhad, vår bror, til hans døtre.

and they said, Jehovah commanded my lord to give the land for inheritance by lot to the children of Israel: and my lord was commanded by Jehovah to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother unto his daughters.

3 Og hvis de gifter seg med noen fra de andre stammene blant Israels barn, vil deres arv bli tatt bort fra arven til våre fedre og bli lagt til den stammen de skal høre til. Slik vil den bli tatt bort fra vår arv.

And if they be married to any of the sons of the `other' tribes of the children of Israel, then will their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of our fathers, and will be added to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they shall belong: so will it be taken away from the lot of our inheritance.

4 Og når jubelåret for Israels barn kommer, vil deres arv bli lagt til arven til den stammen de tilhører, og deres arv vil bli tatt bort fra vår fedrearv.

And when the jubilee of the children of Israel shall be, then will their inheritance be added unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they shall belong: so will their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.

5 Og Moses ga Israels barn befaling i samsvar med Herrens ord og sa: Josef stamme har rett.

And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of Jehovah, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph speaketh right.

6 Dette er hva Herren befaler angående Selofhads døtre, at de kan gifte seg med hvem de finner best; men de skal gifte seg innenfor sin fars stammefamilie.

This is the thing which Jehovah doth command concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them be married to whom they think best; only into the family of the tribe of their father shall they be married.

7 Slik skal ingen arv blant Israels barn flyttes fra stamme til stamme; for hver av Israels barn skal holde seg til arven fra sin fars stamme.

So shall no inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe; for the children of Israel shall cleave every one to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.

8 Og hver datter som eier en arv i en hvilken som helst stamme blant Israels barn, skal være hustru til en fra sin fars stammefamilie, slik at hver av Israels barn kan eie arven fra sine fedre.

And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may possess every man the inheritance of his fathers.

9 Slik skal ingen arv flyttes fra den ene stammen til den andre; for hver av Israels stammer skal holde seg til sin egen arv.

So shall no inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; for the tribes of the children of Israel shall cleave every one to his own inheritance.

10 Som Herren befalte Moses, gjorde Selofhads døtre det.

Even as Jehovah commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad:

11 For Mahlah, Tirsa, Hoglah, Milka og Noa, Selofhads døtre, giftet seg med sine farsbrødres sønner.

for Mahlah, Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were married unto their father's brothers' sons.

12 De giftet seg inn i slektene til Manasses sønner, Josefs sønn, og deres arv ble værende i familien til deres fars stamme.

They were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.

13 Dette er de budene og forskriftene som Herren befalte ved Moses til Israels barn på Moabs sletter ved Jordan, ved Jeriko.

These are the commandments and the ordinances which Jehovah commanded by Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.
