7'Behold, Hanamel, the son of your uncle Shallum, is coming to you to say, Buy my field at Anathoth, for you have the right of redemption to purchase it.'
8Then Hanamel, my cousin, came to me in the courtyard of the guard, just as the LORD had said. He told me, 'Please buy my field at Anathoth, in the territory of Benjamin, because it is your right to redeem it and take possession of it.' At that point, I knew this was indeed the word of the LORD.
9So I bought the field at Anathoth from my cousin Hanamel and weighed out the payment for him—seventeen shekels of silver.
10I signed and sealed the deed, called in witnesses, and weighed out the silver on a scale.
11I took the deed of purchase, both the sealed copy containing the terms and conditions, and the open copy.
12Then I gave the deed of purchase to Baruch, son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, in the presence of my cousin Hanamel, the witnesses who signed the deed, and all the Jews who were sitting in the courtyard of the guard.
13In their presence, I gave Baruch the following instructions:
14This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Take these deeds—both the sealed copy of the purchase deed and the open copy—and put them in a clay jar so they will last a long time.
15For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields, and vineyards will again be bought in this land.
16After I gave the deed of purchase to Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD:
36Now therefore, this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says concerning this city about which you are saying, 'It has been handed over to the king of Babylon through sword, famine, and plague':
2This is what the LORD says: Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine, or plague. But whoever goes out to the Chaldeans will live; they will escape with their life and survive.
3This is what the LORD says: This city will surely be handed over to the army of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it.
2The captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, 'The LORD your God foretold this calamity against this place.'
3And now the LORD has brought it about and done as He said. Because you sinned against the LORD and did not obey His voice, this has happened to you.
