1 Now the people began to complain bitterly in the hearing of the LORD, and when the LORD heard this, His anger burned, and fire from the LORD consumed the outskirts of the camp.

And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

2 Then the people cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to the LORD, and the fire subsided.

And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.

3 So that place was named Taberah, because the fire of the LORD had burned among them.

And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.

4 The rabble among them began to crave other food, and the Israelites also started to weep again, saying, 'Who will give us meat to eat?

And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

5 We remember the fish we ate freely in Egypt, along with the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic.

We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:

6 But now our appetite is gone; there’s nothing to see but this manna!

But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

7 The manna was like coriander seed, and its appearance was like that of bdellium.

And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium.

8 The people went around gathering it, ground it in handmills or crushed it in mortars, cooked it in pots, and made it into cakes. It tasted like a cake baked with the richness of oil.

And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.

9 When the dew came down on the camp at night, the manna would fall with it.

And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.

10 Moses heard the people weeping throughout their clans, each at the entry of his tent. The anger of the LORD burned greatly, and Moses was very displeased.

Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.

11 So Moses said to the LORD, 'Why have You brought trouble on Your servant? Why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You lay the burden of all these people on me?

And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?

12 Did I conceive all these people? Did I give birth to them? Why do You tell me to carry them in my arms, like a nurse carries an infant, to the land You promised their ancestors?

Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?

13 Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep crying to me, saying, ‘Give us meat to eat!’

Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.

14 I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me.

I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.

15 If this is how You are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me—if I have found favor in Your eyes—and do not let me see my misery.

And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

16 The LORD said to Moses, 'Gather seventy men from the elders of Israel whom you know to be leaders of the people and their officials. Bring them to the Tent of Meeting, and have them stand there with you.'

And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.

17 I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will help you bear the burden of the people, so that you do not have to bear it alone.

And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

18 Tell the people: Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you will eat meat. The LORD heard you when you wailed, ‘If only we had meat to eat! We were better off in Egypt!’ Now the LORD will give you meat to eat, and you will eat it.

And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.

19 You will not eat it for just one day, or two days, or five, ten, or twenty days,

Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;

20 but for a whole month—until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you—because you have rejected the LORD, who is among you, and have wailed before Him, saying, ‘Why did we ever leave Egypt?’

But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

21 But Moses said, 'Here I am among six hundred thousand men on foot, and You say, ‘I will give them meat to eat for a whole month’?

And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.

22 Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Or if all the fish in the sea were gathered for them, would that be enough?'

Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?

23 The LORD answered Moses, 'Is the LORD’s arm too short? Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you.'

And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD'S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.

24 So Moses went out and told the people what the LORD had said. He gathered seventy of their elders and had them stand around the Tent.

And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.

25 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and He took some of the Spirit that was on Moses and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied—but they never did so again.

And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.

26 Two men, Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders but had not gone out to the Tent. Yet the Spirit rested on them as well, and they prophesied in the camp.

But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.

27 A young man ran and reported to Moses, 'Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp!'

And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.

28 Then Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses' assistant since his youth, spoke up and said, 'My lord Moses, stop them!'

And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.

29 But Moses replied, 'Are you jealous on my behalf? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put His Spirit on them!'

And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!

30 Then Moses returned to the camp along with the elders of Israel.

And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.

31 Now a wind sent by the LORD drove in quail from the sea and scattered them around the camp to a depth of about two cubits over the ground, as far as a day's walk in any direction around the camp.

And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.

32 All that day, night, and the following day, the people went out and gathered quail. The one who gathered the least still collected ten homers. Then they spread them out all around the camp.

And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.

33 But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it was consumed, the anger of the LORD burned against the people, and He struck them with a severe plague.

And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.

34 So they named that place Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had craved meat.

And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.

35 From Kibroth Hattaavah, the people journeyed to Hazeroth and stayed there.

And the people journeyed from Kibrothhattaavah unto Hazeroth; and abode at Hazeroth.
