1 Darius fant det for godt å sette hundre og tjue satraper over riket, som skulle være i hele riket;

It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred twenty satraps, who should be throughout the whole kingdom;

2 og over dem tre presidenter, hvorav Daniel var en; disse satrapene skulle gi regnskap til dem, slik at kongen ikke skulle lide skade.

and over them three presidents, of whom Daniel was one; that these satraps might give account to them, and that the king should have no damage.

3 Da utmerket Daniel seg fremfor presidentene og satrapene, for en fremragende ånd var i ham, og kongen tenkte å sette ham over hele riket.

Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

4 Da forsøkte presidentene og satrapene å finne en anledning mot Daniel i rikets anliggender; men de kunne ikke finne noen anledning eller feil, for han var trofast, og det ble ikke funnet noen feil eller feiltrinn hos ham.

Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find occasion against Daniel as touching the kingdom; but they could find no occasion nor fault, because he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

5 Da sa disse mennene, Vi skal ikke finne noen anledning mot denne Daniel, med mindre vi finner det i forbindelse med loven til hans Gud.

Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

6 Da samlet presidentene og satrapene seg sammen for å gå til kongen og sa til ham: Kong Darius, lev evig.

Then these presidents and satraps assembled together to the king, and said thus to him, King Darius, live forever.

7 Alle rikets presidenter, stedfortredere og satraper, rådsherrer og guvernører har rådført seg for å fastsette en kongelig bestemmelse og lage et strengt forbud, at hvem som helst som ber en bønn til noen gud eller menneske i tretti dager, unntatt til deg, konge, skal kastes i løvehulen.

All the presidents of the kingdom, the deputies and the satraps, the counselors and the governors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a strong interdict, that whoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, save of you, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

8 Nå, konge, fastsett forbudet og skriv under dokumentet, slik at det ikke kan endres, i henhold til medernes og persernes lov, som ikke kan forandres.

Now, O king, establish the interdict, and sign the writing, that it not be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which doesn't alter.

9 Derfor undertegnet kong Darius dokumentet og forbudet.

Therefore king Darius signed the writing and the interdict.

10 Da Daniel visste at dokumentet var underskrevet, gikk han inn i sitt hus (nå var vinduene i hans kammer åpne mot Jerusalem), og han falt på kne tre ganger om dagen og ba og takket sin Gud, slik han alltid hadde gjort.

When Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his chamber toward Jerusalem) and he kneeled on his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did before.

11 Da samlet disse mennene seg og fant Daniel be og be for sin Gud.

Then these men assembled together, and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God.

12 Deretter nærmet de seg og talte til kongen angående kongens forbud: Har du ikke underskrevet et forbud om at enhver som ber en bønn til noen gud eller menneske innen tretti dager, unntatt til deg, konge, skal kastes i løvehulen? Kongen svarte: Det holder stemme, i henhold til medernes og persernes lov, som ikke kan forandres.

Then they came near, and spoke before the king concerning the king's interdict: Haven't you signed an interdict, that every man who shall make petition to any god or man within thirty days, save to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which doesn't alter.

13 Da svarte de og sa til kongen: Den Daniel, som er en av de bortførte fra Juda, bryr seg verken om deg, konge, eller forbudet du har underskrevet, men han ber sine bønner tre ganger om dagen.

Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, who is of the children of the captivity of Judah, doesn't regard you, O king, nor the interdict that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.

14 Da kongen hørte disse ordene, ble han svært misfornøyd, og han satte hjertet sitt på å redde Daniel; og han arbeidet til solnedgang for å redde ham.

Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored until the going down of the sun to rescue him.

15 Da samlet disse mennene seg igjen for å gå til kongen og sa til ham: Vit, konge, at det er en lov av mederne og perserne at ingen forbud eller forordning som kongen fastsetter, kan endres.

Then these men assembled together to the king, and said to the king, Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians, that no interdict nor statute which the king establishes may be changed.

16 Da befalte kongen, og de førte Daniel og kastet ham i løvehulen. Kongen talte til Daniel og sa: Din Gud som du stadig tjener, han vil redde deg.

Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. [Now] the king spoke and said to Daniel, Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you.

17 En stein ble brakt og lagt over munningen av hulen; og kongen forseglet den med sitt eget segl og med sine herrers segl, slik at ingenting kunne endres angående Daniel.

A stone was brought, and laid on the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.

18 Så dro kongen til sitt palass og tilbrakte natten fastende; heller ikke brakte de noen musikkinstrumenter foran ham, og søvnen flyktet fra ham.

Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting; neither were instruments of music brought before him: and his sleep fled from him.

19 Så stod kongen opp tidlig neste morgen og skyndte seg til løvehulen.

Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste to the den of lions.

20 Da han nærmet seg hulen til Daniel, ropte han med sorgfull stemme; kongen talte og sa til Daniel: Daniel, den levende Guds tjener, er din Gud, som du stadig tjener, i stand til å redde deg fra løvene?

When he came near to the den to Daniel, he cried with a lamentable voice; the king spoke and said to Daniel, Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?

21 Da sa Daniel til kongen: O konge, lev evig.

Then said Daniel to the king, O king, live forever.

22 Min Gud har sendt sin engel og stengt løvenes munner, og de har ikke skadet meg; for uskyld ble funnet hos meg foran ham; og også foran deg, konge, har jeg ikke gjort noe ondt.

My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions' mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt.

23 Da ble kongen utrolig glad og befalte at de skulle ta Daniel opp av hulen. Så ble Daniel tatt opp av hulen, og ikke noe sår ble funnet på ham, fordi han hadde stolt på sin Gud.

Then was the king exceeding glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

24 Kongen befalte, og de brakte de mennene som hadde anklaget Daniel, og kastet dem i løvehulen, dem, deres barn og deres koner; og løvene fikk makt over dem og brøt alle deres ben i stykker, før de nådde bunnen av hulen.

The king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and broke all their bones in pieces, before they came to the bottom of the den.

25 Da skrev kong Darius til alle folk, nasjoner og tungemål som bor på hele jorden: Fred være mangfoldig gjort mot dere.

Then king Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.

26 Jeg gir en forordning, at i alle deler av mitt rike skal folk skjelve og frykte for Daniels Gud; for han er den levende Gud, og evig fast; Hans rike skal ikke bli ødelagt, og hans styre skal vare til enden.

I make a decree, that in all the dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel; for he is the living God, and steadfast forever, His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed; and his dominion shall be even to the end.

27 Han redder og befrier, og han gjør tegn og undere i himmelen og på jorden, han som har reddet Daniel fra løvenes makt.

He delivers and rescues, and he works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

28 Så levde denne Daniel godt under kong Darius og under kong Kyros den persiske.

So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
