1 Det skjedde etter dette at Gud satte Abraham på prøve og sa til ham: "Abraham!" Han svarte: "Her er jeg."

It happened after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham!" He said, "Here I am."

2 Han sa: "Ta nå din sønn, din eneste sønn, som du elsker, Isak, og dra til landet Moria. Ofre ham der som et brennoffer på et av fjellene, som jeg skal fortelle deg om."

He said, "Now take your son, your only son, whom you love, even Isaac, and go into the land of Moriah. Offer him there for a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you of."

3 Tidlig om morgenen steg Abraham opp, salte eselet sitt og tok to av sine unge tjenere med seg, og Isak, sin sønn. Han kløyvde veden til brennofferet, sto opp, og dro til stedet som Gud hadde sagt til ham.

Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son. He split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him.

4 På den tredje dagen løftet Abraham blikket og så stedet langt borte.

On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place far off.

5 Abraham sa til sine unge menn: "Bli her med eselet, mens gutten og jeg går dit opp. Vi vil tilbe og så komme tilbake til dere."

Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go yonder. We will worship, and come back to you.

6 Abraham tok veden til brennofferet og la den på Isak, sin sønn. Han tok med seg ilden og kniven. Så gikk de sammen.

Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. He took in his hand the fire and the knife. They both went together.

7 Isak sa til Abraham, sin far: "Far?" Han svarte: "Her er jeg, min sønn." Han sa: "Her er ilden og veden, men hvor er lammet til brennofferet?"

Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, and said, "My father?" He said, "Here I am, my son." He said, "Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?"

8 Abraham svarte: "Gud vil selv sørge for lammet til brennofferet, min sønn." Så gikk de videre sammen.

Abraham said, "God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son." So they both went together.

9 De kom til stedet Gud hadde nevnt for ham, og Abraham bygde alteret der, la veden til rette, bandt Isak, sin sønn, og la ham på alteret, oppå veden.

They came to the place which God had told him of. Abraham built the altar there, and laid the wood in order, bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, on the wood.

10 Abraham rakte ut hånden og tok kniven for å ofre sin sønn.

Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to kill his son.

11 Herrens engel ropte til ham fra himmelen og sa: "Abraham, Abraham!" Han svarte: "Her er jeg."

The angel of Yahweh called to him out of the sky, and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" He said, "Here I am."

12 Engelen sa: "Legg ikke hånd på gutten og gjør ikke noe med ham. Nå vet jeg at du frykter Gud, siden du ikke sparte din sønn, din eneste sønn, for meg."

He said, "Don't lay your hand on the boy, neither do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me."

13 Abraham løftet blikket, og bak seg så han en vær som satt fast i en kratt med hornene. Abraham gikk bort, tok væren og ofret den som brennoffer i stedet for sin sønn.

Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and saw that behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of his son.

14 Abraham kalte stedet for Herren-Jireh. Som det sies den dag i dag: "På Herrens berg vil det bli sørget for."

Abraham called the name of that place Yahweh-Jireh.{"Yahweh-Jireh" means "Yahweh is my provider."} As it is said to this day, "In Yahweh's mountain it will be provided.

15 Herrens engel ropte til Abraham en gang til fra himmelen,

The angel of Yahweh called to Abraham a second time out of the sky,

16 og sa: "Jeg sverger ved meg selv, sier Herren, fordi du har gjort dette og ikke spart din sønn, din eneste sønn,

and said, "I have sworn by myself, says Yahweh, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son,

17 vil jeg velsigne deg rikt, og gjøre din ætt tallrik som stjernene på himmelen og som sanden på havets strand. Din ætt skal ta sine fienders porter i eie.

that in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens, and as the sand which is on the seashore. Your seed will possess the gate of his enemies.

18 I din ætt skal alle jordens folk velsignes, fordi du var lydig mot min røst."

In your seed will all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice."

19 Så vendte Abraham tilbake til sine unge menn, og de reiste sammen til Beersheba, hvor Abraham bosatte seg.

So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beersheba. Abraham lived at Beersheba.

20 Etter disse hendelsene ble det sagt til Abraham: "Se, Milka har også født barn til din bror Nahor:

It happened after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, "Behold, Milcah, she also has borne children to your brother Nahor:

21 Uts, hans førstefødte, Buz, hans bror, og Kemuel, Arams far,

Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram,

22 Kesed, Haso, Pildasj, Jidlaf og Betuel."

Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel."

23 Betuel ble far til Rebekka. Disse åtte fødte Milka til Nahor, Abrahams bror.

Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother.

24 Hans medhustru, som het Reuma, fødte også Tebah, Gaham, Tahasj, og Ma'aka.

His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bare Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
