Verse 1

All of Israel was recorded by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were taken to Babylon for their transgression.

Verse 2

Now the first inhabitants who lived in their possessions in their cities were the Israelites, the priests, the Levites, and the Nethinim.

And in Jerusalem lived the children of Judah, the children of Benjamin, the children of Ephraim, and Manasseh.

Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Perez, the son of Judah.

And their brethren according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty-six. All these men were leaders of their ancestral houses.

Verse 13

And their brethren, heads of their ancestral houses, one thousand seven hundred and sixty; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.

And of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari.

And Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph.

Verse 16

And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.

Verse 17

And the gatekeepers were Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their brethren; Shallum was the chief.

And the porters were, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum was the chief;

Verse 18

They previously served in the king's gate to the east. They were gatekeepers for the camps of the Levites.

Who hitherto waited in the king's gate eastward: they were porters in the companies of the children of Levi.

Verse 19

And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren from his ancestral house, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gate of the tabernacle as their ancestors had been in charge of the camp of the LORD, keeping the entry.

Verse 20

Phinehas the son of Eleazar had been their leader, and the LORD was with him.

And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him.

Verse 21

Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was the keeper of the door for the tent of meeting.

And Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

Verse 22

All those chosen to be gatekeepers in the gates were two hundred and twelve. They were registered by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer appointed in their set office.

Verse 23

They and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of the LORD, namely, the house of the tabernacle, by divisions.

The gatekeepers were in four quarters: east, west, north, and south.

Their brethren in their villages were to come with them from time to time for seven days.

Verse 26

For these Levites, the four chief gatekeepers, had been appointed over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.

For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.

Verse 27

They stayed around the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and they had the duty of opening it every morning.

And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and the opening thereof every morning pertained to them.

Verse 28

Some of them were in charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by count.

And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.

Verse 29

Others were appointed to oversee the vessels, all the instruments of the sanctuary, the fine flour, the wine, the oil, the frankincense, and the spices.

Verse 30

Some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices.

Mattithiah, one of the Levites, the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with making the items in the pans.

Verse 32

Their brethren from the Kohathites were in charge of preparing the showbread every Sabbath.

And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the shewbread, to prepare it every sabbath.

Verse 33

These are the singers, ancestors of the Levites, who stayed in the chambers and were exempt from other duties because they were employed in that work day and night.

And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: for they were employed in that work day and night.

Verse 34

These chief ancestors of the Levites, chief throughout their generations, lived in Jerusalem.

These chief fathers of the Levites were chief throughout their generations; these dwelt at Jerusalem.

Verse 35

In Gibeon lived the father of Gibeon, Jehiel, whose wife's name was Maachah.

And in Gibeon dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jehiel, whose wife's name was Maachah:

His firstborn son was Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, and Nadab.

And his firstborn son Abdon, then Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab,

Verse 37

Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.

And Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth.

Verse 38

Mikloth became the father of Shimeam. They also lived with their brethren in Jerusalem opposite their brethren.

And Mikloth begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brethren at Jerusalem, over against their brethren.

Verse 39

Ner became the father of Kish; Kish became the father of Saul; Saul became the father of Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

Verse 40

The son of Jonathan was Meribbaal, and Meribbaal became the father of Micah.

And the son of Jonathan was Meribbaal: and Meribbaal begat Micah.

Verse 41

The sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.

And the sons of Micah were, Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and Ahaz.

Verse 42

Ahaz became the father of Jarah; Jarah became the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; Zimri became the father of Moza.

And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begat Moza;

Verse 43

Moza became the father of Binea; Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.

And Moza begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.

Verse 44

Azel had six sons, whose names are these: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan: these were the sons of Azel.

And Azel had six sons, whose names are these, Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan: these were the sons of Azel.
