Verse 1

And the whole crowd arose and led Him to Pilate.

And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.

Verse 2

And they began to accuse Him, saying, We found this man misleading the nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, claiming that He is Christ, a King.

And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

Verse 3

And Pilate asked Him, saying, Are You the King of the Jews? And He answered him, saying, You say it.

And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.

Verse 4

Then Pilate said to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.

But they were even more fierce, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to here.

Verse 6

When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.

And as soon as he knew that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

Verse 8

And when Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad; for he had long wanted to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him.

And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.

Verse 9

Then he questioned Him with many words; but He answered him nothing.

And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him.

And Herod with his soldiers treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arraying Him in a splendid robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

And that same day Pilate and Herod became friends, for they had previously been enemies.

Said to them, You have brought this man to me as one who misleads the people. And behold, I have examined Him in your presence, and have found no fault in this man concerning those things of which you accuse Him.

Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:

Verse 15

No, nor Herod, for I sent you to him, and indeed nothing deserving death has been done by Him.

No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.

Verse 16

I will therefore chastise Him and release Him.

And he said to them the third time, Why, what evil has He done? I have found no reason for death in Him. I will therefore chastise Him and let Him go.

But they persisted with loud voices, demanding that He be crucified. And their voices and those of the chief priests prevailed.

Verse 24

And Pilate sentenced that it should be as they requested.

And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.

Verse 25

And he released to them the one who had been thrown into prison for rebellion and murder, whom they had asked for; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

And as they led Him away, they seized Simon, a Cyrenian, coming from the country, and they laid the cross on him, that he might carry it behind Jesus.

And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.

Verse 27

And a great crowd of people followed Him, and of women who also mourned and lamented Him.

And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.

Verse 28

But Jesus, turning to them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

Verse 29

For indeed, the days are coming in which they will say, Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts which never nursed.

For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.

Verse 30

Then they will begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

For if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?

For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

Verse 32

And there were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death.

And when they came to the place called Calvary, they crucified Him there, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

Then Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. And they divided His garments and cast lots.

And the people stood looking on. But the rulers, with them, sneered, saying, He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is Christ, the chosen of God.

Verse 36

The soldiers also mocked Him, coming to Him and offering Him vinegar,

Verse 39

Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, If You are Christ, save Yourself and us.

And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

Verse 40

But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?

Verse 41

And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.

Then he said to Jesus, Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.

Verse 43

And Jesus said to him, Truly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in paradise.

And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Verse 44

And it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

Then the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.

And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit. And having said this, He breathed His last.

Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

He had not consented to their decision and action. He was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who also himself was waiting for the kingdom of God.

Verse 52

This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a tomb that was cut out of stone, where no one had ever lain before.

That day was the preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near.

Then they returned and prepared spices and ointments, and they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.
