Verse 1

And he began again to teach by the seaside, and a great multitude gathered around him, so that he entered a ship and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was on the land by the sea.

And some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth.

And he said to them, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

And he said to them, To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God, but to those who are outside, all things are done in parables,

Verse 12

that seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand, lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

Verse 13

And he said to them, Do you not know this parable? How then will you know all parables?

And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown; but when they hear it, Satan comes immediately, and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.

And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

Verse 16

And these are likewise the ones sown on stony ground; who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

Verse 17

and have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when affliction or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

Verse 18

And these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word,

and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in, choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

And these are the ones sown on good ground; those who hear the word, receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.

Verse 21

And he said to them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel or under a bed? Is it not to be set on a candlestick?

Verse 22

For there is nothing hidden which shall not be manifested, nor has anything been kept secret, but that it should come to light.

For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

Verse 23

If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.

If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

Verse 24

And he said to them, Take heed what you hear; with what measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given.

And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

Verse 25

For he who has, more will be given to him; and he who does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.

For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.

Verse 26

And he said, The kingdom of God is as if a man should cast seed into the ground;

And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;

Verse 27

and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he does not know how.

Verse 28

For the earth yields fruit by itself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.

But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.

And he said, To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what comparison shall we compare it?

And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

Verse 31

It is like a grain of mustard seed which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds on the earth;

but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.

Verse 33

And with many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it.

But without a parable he did not speak to them, and when they were alone, he explained all things to his disciples.

And the same day, when evening had come, he said to them, Let us pass over to the other side.

And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

Verse 36

And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him just as he was in the ship. And there were also other little ships with him.

And a great storm of wind arose, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

And he was in the stern of the ship, asleep on a pillow; and they awoke him, and said to him, Master, do you not care that we are perishing?

And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Verse 40

And he said to them, Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?

And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
