23“Say this to King Rehoboam son of Solomon of Judah, and to all Judah and Benjamin, as well as the rest of the people,
16Then Rehoboam passed away and was buried in the City of David. His son Abijah replaced him as king.
26Jeroboam then thought to himself:“Now the Davidic dynasty could regain the kingdom.
27If these people go up to offer sacrifices in the LORD’s temple in Jerusalem, their loyalty could shift to their former master, King Rehoboam of Judah. They might kill me and return to King Rehoboam of Judah.”
28After the king had consulted with his advisers, he made two golden calves. Then he said to the people,“It is too much trouble for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look, Israel, here are your gods who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”

2Solomon addressed all Israel, including those who commanded units of a thousand and a hundred, the judges, and all the leaders of all Israel who were heads of families.
10Now give me wisdom and discernment so I can effectively lead this nation. Otherwise no one is able to make judicial decisions for this great nation of yours.”
11The LORD’s message came to Solomon:
20Now, my master, O king, all Israel is watching anxiously to see who is named to succeed my master the king on the throne.

8Solomon replied to God,“You demonstrated great loyalty to my father David and have made me king in his place.
22Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah as the leader over his brothers, for he intended to name him his successor.
5Shemaiah the prophet visited Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah who were assembled in Jerusalem because of Shishak. He said to them,“This is what the LORD says:‘You have rejected me, so I have rejected you and will hand you over to Shishak.’”
