12Happy is the one who endures testing, because when he has proven to be genuine, he will receive the crown of life that God promised to those who love him.
13Let no one say when he is tempted,“I am tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.
14But each one is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desires.
15Then when desire conceives, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is full grown, it gives birth to death.
16Do not be led astray, my dear brothers and sisters.
12Dear friends, do not be astonished that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as though something strange were happening to you.
13But rejoice in the degree that you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice and be glad.
10As an example of suffering and patience, brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the Lord’s name.
11Think of how we regard as blessed those who have endured. You have heard of Job’s endurance and you have seen the Lord’s purpose, that the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
12And above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath. But let your“Yes” be yes and your“No” be no, so that you may not fall into judgment.
13Prayer for the Sick Is anyone among you suffering? He should pray. Is anyone in good spirits? He should sing praises.
3Not only this, but we also rejoice in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
9Resist him, strong in your faith, because you know that your brothers and sisters throughout the world are enduring the same kinds of suffering.
10And, after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

19Living Out the Message Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters! Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.

6For it is right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,
18And in the same way you also should be glad and rejoice together with me.
3And I wrote this very thing to you, so that when I came I would not have sadness from those who ought to make me rejoice, since I am confident in you all that my joy would be yours.
19My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone turns him back,
24Final Blessing Now to the one who is able to keep you from falling, and to cause you to stand, rejoicing, without blemish before his glorious presence,
20For you are our glory and joy!
