Then they reported to David, saying, "Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are looting the threshing floors."

Da spurte David Herren: "Skal jeg gå og slå disse filisterne?" Herren svarte David: "Gå og slå filisterne og redd Ke'ila."

So David asked the LORD, saying, "Should I go and attack these Philistines?" The LORD answered David, "Go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah."

Men Davids menn sa til ham: "Se, vi er allerede redde her i Juda, hvordan kan vi da gå til Ke'ila mot filistrenes hærer?"

But David's men said to him, "We are afraid here in Judah. How much more if we go to Keilah to face the battle lines of the Philistines!"

David spurte Herren igjen, og Herren svarte ham: "Reis deg, gå ned til Ke'ila, for jeg vil gi filisterne i din hånd."

So David inquired of the LORD again, and the LORD answered him, "Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will give the Philistines into your hand."

Så gikk David og hans menn til Ke'ila, kjempet mot filisterne, drev deres buskap bort og slo et stort slag blant dem. Dermed reddet David innbyggerne i Ke'ila.

David and his men went to Keilah and fought against the Philistines. He drove their livestock away and struck them with a great blow. Thus, David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

Da Abjatar, sønn av Ahimelek, flyktet til David i Ke'ila, hadde han med seg efoden.

Now when Abiathar son of Ahimelech fled to David at Keilah, he brought the ephod with him.

Og det ble fortalt Saul at David var kommet til Ke'ila. Saul sa: "Gud har overgitt ham i min hånd, for han har stengt seg inne ved å gå inn i en by med porter og bommer."

Saul was informed that David had gone to Keilah, and he said, "God has delivered him into my hand, for he has trapped himself by entering a city with gates and bars."

Saul kalte hele hæren sammen for å gå ned til Ke'ila og beleire David og hans menn.

So Saul summoned all the troops for battle to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.

Da David forsto at Saul la onde planer mot ham, sa han til Abjatar, presten: "Bring hit efoden."

When David learned that Saul was plotting harm against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here."

Så sa David: "Herre, Israels Gud, din tjener har hørt at Saul planlegger å komme til Ke'ila for å ødelegge byen for min skyld."

David said, "LORD, God of Israel, your servant has certainly heard that Saul intends to come to Keilah and destroy the city because of me.

"Vil mennene i Ke'ila overgi meg i Sauls hånd? Vil Saul komme ned slik din tjener har hørt? Herre, Israels Gud, fortell din tjener." Herren svarte: "Han vil komme ned."

Will the leaders of Keilah hand me over to him? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? LORD, God of Israel, please tell your servant." And the LORD answered, "He will come down."

David spurte igjen: "Vil mennene i Ke'ila overgi meg og mine menn i Sauls hånd?" Herren svarte: "De vil overgi dere."

Then David said, 'Will the leaders of Keilah hand me and my men over to Saul?' The LORD replied, 'They will hand you over.'

Da reiste David og hans seks hundre menn seg, dro bort fra Ke'ila og vandret omkring hvor de kunne. Det ble meldt til Saul at David hadde sluppet unna Ke'ila, og han oppga å dra ut.

So David and his men, about six hundred in number, left Keilah and moved wherever they could go. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he stopped his pursuit.

David ble i ørkenen i festningene og oppholdt seg i fjellene i Zifs ørken. Saul søkte ham alle dager, men Gud overga ham ikke i hans hånd.

David stayed in the wilderness strongholds and in the hill country of the Wilderness of Ziph. Saul searched for him every day, but God did not hand David over to him.

David fikk vite at Saul var dratt ut for å søke hans liv. David var da i Zifs ørken i skogen.

When David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life, he stayed in the Wilderness of Ziph, in the woods.

Jonatan, Sauls sønn, drog til David i skogen og styrket hans hånd i Gud.

Then Jonathan, Saul's son, went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God.

Han sa til ham: "Frykt ikke, for min fars hånd, Saul, vil ikke finne deg, og du skal bli konge over Israel, og jeg skal være nest etter deg; også min far Saul vet dette."

He said to him, 'Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father will not find you; you will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you. Even Saul my father knows this.'

De to inngikk en pakt for Herrens ansikt, og David ble i skogen, men Jonatan dro hjem igjen.

The two of them made a covenant before the LORD. Then David remained in the woods, and Jonathan returned to his house.

Zifittene kom opp til Saul i Gibea og sa: "Vet du ikke at David gjemmer seg hos oss i festningene i skogen på Hakhilas høyde, sør for Jesjimon?"

The Ziphites went to Saul at Gibeah and said, 'Isn't David hiding among us in the strongholds in the woods, on the hill of Hachilah, south of Jeshimon?'

«Kongen kan nå komme ned etter alt det som han ønsker, og det vil være vår sak å overgi ham i kongens hånd.»

Now, O king, come down whenever you desire, and it will be our duty to surrender him into your hand.

Saul sa: "Velsignet være dere av Herren, for dere har hatt medlidenhet med meg."

Saul replied, 'May you be blessed by the LORD, for you have shown compassion on me.'

«Gå nå og gjør forberedelser, finn ut hvor han oppholder seg og hvem som har sett ham der, for det er blitt sagt til meg at han er meget listig.»

Please go and make further preparations. Investigate and find out where David is and who has seen him there, because I have been told he is very crafty.

Se derfor etter og finn ut av alle skjulestedene hvor han gjemmer seg, og kom tilbake til meg med sikre opplysninger, så vil jeg dra med dere. Hvis han er i landet, vil jeg lete etter ham blant alle Judas tusener.»

Carefully identify all the hiding places where he could be staying and return to me with reliable information. Then I will come with you, and if he is indeed in the land, I will search for him among all the clans of Judah.

Så dro de opp og gikk til Zif foran Saul, men David og hans menn var i Maons ørken, i Arabaen, sør for Jesjimon.

So they set out and went to Ziph ahead of Saul, while David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain south of Jeshimon.

Og Saul og hans menn gikk ut for å lete, men David fikk beskjed om det, så han dro ned til klippen og ble værende i Maons ørken. Da Saul hørte om det, forfulgte han David i Maons ørken.

When Saul and his men began searching for him, David was told about it. He then went down to the rock and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. When Saul heard this, he pursued David into the wilderness of Maon.

Saul beveget seg langs den ene siden av fjellet, mens David og hans menn var på den andre siden av fjellet. David skyndte seg å komme seg bort fra Saul, men Saul og hans menn omringet David og hans menn for å fange dem.

Saul was going along one side of the mountain, and David and his men were on the other side, hurrying to get away from Saul. But as Saul and his forces were closing in on David and his men to capture them,

a messenger came to Saul, saying, 'Hurry and come, because the Philistines have raided the land.'

Så vendte Saul tilbake fra forfølgelsen etter David og dro for å møte filisterne. Derfor kalte de stedet for Sela-hammahlekot.

Then Saul stopped pursuing David and went to confront the Philistines. That is why they called that place the Rock of Escape.
