Da Jabin, kongen av Hasor, hørte dette, sendte han bud til Jobab, kongen av Madon, og til kongen av Sjimron, og til kongen av Akshaf.

And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard thereof, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

og til kongene i nord, i fjellandet, i Arabadalen sør for Kinneret, i lavlandet og i høydene ved Dor i vest,

and to the kings that were on the north, in the hill-country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west,

til kanaaneerne i øst og vest, amorittene, hetittene, perisittene og jebusittene i fjellandet, og hevittene under Hermon i landet Mispa.

to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill-country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

De dro ut med alle sine hærer, så mange som sanden på havets strand, sammen med en stor mengde hester og vogner.

And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea-shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.

Alle disse kongene samlet seg, og de kom og slo leir ved vannene i Merom for å kjempe mot Israel.

And all these kings met together; and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.

Og Herren sa til Josva: Vær ikke redd dem, for i morgen på denne tiden vil jeg gi dem over, drept foran Israel; du skal kappe hamsenen på hestene deres og brenne vognene deres med ild.

And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them; for to-morrow at this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hock their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

Så kom Josva med alle krigsfolket mot dem ved vannene i Merom, og de overfalt dem plutselig.

So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell upon them.

Og Herren ga dem i Israels hånd, og de slo dem og forfulgte dem til Storsidon, Misrefot-Majim og til Mizpedalen mot øst; de slo dem til de ikke lot noen overlevende tilbake.

And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they smote them, and chased them unto great Sidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

Og Josva gjorde mot dem som Herren hadde befalt ham; han kappet hamsenen på hestene deres og brant vognene deres med ild.

And Joshua did unto them as Jehovah bade him: he hocked their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

På den tiden vendte Josva tilbake og inntok Hasor og slo kongen der med sverdet, for Hasor var før den største by blant alle disse rikene.

And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.

De drepte alle sjelene der med sverdets egg og ødela dem fullstendig; ingen ble latt tilbake i live, og han brente Hasor med ild.

And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was none left that breathed: and he burnt Hazor with fire.

Alle byene til disse kongene og alle kongene slo Josva med sverdets egg, og han ødela dem fullstendig, slik som Moses, Herrens tjener, hadde befalt.

And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and he smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded.

But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn.

Alt byttet fra disse byene og kveget tok Israels barn som bytte til seg selv, men alle menneskene drepte de med sverdets egg, til de hadde ødelagt dem fullstendig; de lot ingen bli igjen i live.

And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any that breathed.

Som Herren hadde befalt sin tjener Moses, gjorde Moses således opp med Josva; og Josva etterkom alt som Herren hadde befalt Moses.

As Jehovah commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua: and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that Jehovah commanded Moses.

Så tok Josva hele dette landet, fjellandet, hele sørlandet, hele landet Gosen, lavlandet, Arabadalen, Israels fjell og lavland,

So Joshua took all that land, the hill-country, and all the South, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill-country of Israel, and the lowland of the same;

fra fjellet Halak som går opp til Se'ir, til Baal-Gad i Libanondalen under Hermonfjellet; og alle deres konger beseiret han og slo dem og drepte dem.

from mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and put them to death.

Josva førte krig i lang tid med alle disse kongene.

Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

Det var ingen by som gjorde fred med Israels barn, bortsett fra hevittene, innbyggerne i Gibeon; alle de andre tok de i kamp.

There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: they took all in battle.

For det var av Herren å gjøre deres hjerter harde, så de kom ut i kamp mot Israel for å ødelegge dem fullstendig, så de ikke skulle få noen nåde, men bli ødelagt, slik som Herren hadde befalt Moses.

For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

På den tiden kom Josva og utryddet anakittene fra fjellandet, fra Hebron, fra Debir, fra Anab, fra hele Judas fjell og fra hele Israels fjell; Josva ødela dem fullstendig med deres byer.

And Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel: Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.

Det var ingen anakitter igjen i Israels barns land, unntatt i Gaza, i Gat og i Asdod, hvor noen forble.

There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.

Så tok Josva hele landet, akkurat som Herren hadde sagt til Moses; og Josva ga det som arv til Israel etter deres stammefordelinger. Og landet fikk ro fra krig.

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah spake unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land had rest from war.
