Jeg ønsker at dere skal vite hvilken stor kamp jeg har for dere og for dem i Laodikea, og for alle som ikke har sett meg ansikt til ansikt.

For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;

For at deres hjerter kan bli trøstet, være sammenbundet i kjærlighet, og oppnå all rikdom av full overbevisning i forståelsen, til erkjennelsen av Guds mysterium, nemlig Faderen og Kristus.

That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

I hvem alle visdommens og kunnskapens skatter er skjult.

In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Dette sier jeg for at ingen skal bedra dere med fristende ord.

And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

For selv om jeg ikke er fysisk tilstede, er jeg med dere i ånden, og gleder meg over å se deres orden og fasthet i troen på Kristus.

For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

Siden dere har mottatt Kristus Jesus som Herren, så vandre i ham.

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

Vær rotfestet og bygd opp i ham, og grunnfestet i troen, slik dere er blitt opplært, rikelig i takksigelse.

Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Pass på at ingen fører dere bortet ved filosofi og tomt bedrag, etter menneskelige tradisjoner og verdens prinsipper, og ikke etter Kristus.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

For i ham bor hele guddommens fylde legemlig.

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Og dere er fullkomne i ham, som er hodet for all makt og myndighet.

And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

I ham ble dere også omskåret med en omskjæring som ikke er gjort med hender, ved å avlegge kroppens syndige natur gjennom Kristi omskjæring.

In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Begravet med ham i dåpen, ble dere også oppreist med ham ved troen på Guds kraft, han som reiste Kristus opp fra de døde.

Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

Også dere, som var døde i syndene og uomskåret i kjødet, har han gjort levende sammen med ham, og tilgitt alle deres overtredelser.

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Han strøk ut det skyldbrevet med forskrifter som var mot oss, det som stod oss imot, og tok det bort ved å nagle det til korset.

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

La derfor ingen dømme dere når det gjelder mat eller drikke, eller i forbindelse med en høytid, nymåne eller sabbater.

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Dette er en skygge av de ting som skulle komme, men selve realiteten er Kristus.

Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

La ingen frata dere seierens krans ved falsk ydmykhet og engledyrkelse, ved å innlate seg på ting han ikke har sett, og bli oppblåst av sitt kjødelige sinn.

Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

Og ikke holde fast ved Hodet, som hele legemet, ved ledd og bånd, får næring fra og er sammenbundet, slik at det vokser med veksten fra Gud.

And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

Dersom dere er døde med Kristus fra verdens grunnleggende prinsipper, hvorfor lever dere da som om dere fortsatt tilhører verden, underlagt dens forskrifter?

Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,

(Rør ikke, smak ikke, ta ikke på.)

(Touch not; taste not; handle not;

Alle disse ting er underlagt forfall når de brukes, i henhold til menneskelige forordninger og doktriner?

Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?

Disse tingene har virkelig et skinn av visdom i selvvalgt dyrking, ydmykhet og mishandling av kroppen, men de har ingen verdi når det gjelder å tilfredsstille kroppens lyster.

Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
