During the forty-second jubilee, in the first year of the seventh week [2052], Abraham summoned Ishmael and his twelve children, Isaac and his two children, and the six children of Keturah and their sons.

Han befalte dem å følge Herrens vei slik at de ville gjøre det som er rett og at de skulle elske hverandre; at de skulle være slik under enhver krig for å kunne motstå hver enkelt fiende; og å gjøre det som er rett og rettferdig på jorden.

He ordered them to keep the way of the Lord so that they would do what is right and that they should love one another; that they should be like this in every war so that they could go against each one (who was) against them; and do what is just and right on the earth;

At de skulle omskjære sine sønner i den pakten han inngikk med dem; at de ikke skulle vike til høyre eller venstre fra alle de veier Herren har pålagt oss; at vi skulle holde oss borte fra all seksuell urenhet og uanstendighet; og at vi skulle fjerne all urenhet og seksuell urenhet fra blant oss.

that they should circumcise their sons in the covenant which he had made with them; that they should not deviate to the right or left from all the ways which the Lord commanded us; that we should keep ourselves from all sexual impurity and uncleanness; and that we should dismiss all uncleanness and sexual impurity from among us.

Hvis noen kvinne eller jente blant dere begår en seksuell forbrytelse, skal hun brennes i ild; de skal ikke begå seksuelle lovbrudd ved å følge sine øyne og hjerter slik at de tar koner fra kanaaneiske kvinner, fordi Kanaans etterkommere vil bli utryddet fra jorden.

If any woman or girl among you commits a sexual offence, burn her in fire; they are not to commit sexual offences (by) following their eyes and their hearts so that they take wives for themselves from the Canaanite women, because the descendants of Canaan will be uprooted from the earth.

Han fortalte dem om straffen til kjempene og straffen til Sodoma — hvordan de ble dømt på grunn av sin ondskap; på grunn av den seksuelle urenheten, uanstendigheten og fordervelsen blant dem selv døde de i sin seksuelle urenhet.

He told them about the punishment of the giants and the punishment of Sodom — how they were condemned because of their wickedness; because of the sexual impurity, uncleanness, and corruption among themselves they died in (their) sexual impurity.

‘Nå skal dere holde dere borte fra all seksuell urenhet, uanstendighet og all syndens forurensning slik at dere ikke gjør vårt navn til en forbannelse, deres liv til en grunn for hån og alle deres barn til noe som ødelegges av sverdet. Da vil dere bli forbannet som Sodoma, og alle som blir igjen blant dere som folket i Gomorra.

‘Now you keep yourselves from all sexual impurity and uncleanness and from all the contamination of sin so that you do not make our name into a curse, your entire lives into a (reason for) hissing and all your children into something that is destroyed by the sword. Then you will be accursed like Sodom, and all who remain of you like the people of Gomorrah.

Jeg vitner for dere mine sønner: Elsk himmelens Gud og hold fast ved alle hans bud. Følg ikke deres avguder og deres urenhet.

I testify to you my sons: love the God of heaven and hold fast to all his commandments. Do not follow their idols and their uncleanness.

Lag ikke for dere selv guder som er støpte bilder eller statuer fordi de er tomme og har ingen ånd i seg. For de er laget av hender, og alle som stoler på dem, stoler på ingenting. Ikke tilbe dem eller bøy dere for dem.

Do not make for yourselves gods that are molten images or statues because they are something empty and have no spirit in them. For they are made by hands, and all who trust in them all trust in nothing at all. Do not worship them or bow to them.

Tilbe heller den høyeste Gud og bøy dere for ham kontinuerlig. Se med forventning til hans nærvær til alle tider, og gjør det som er rett og rettferdig for ham slik at han kan ha glede av dere, gi dere sin gunst, og la regnet falle for dere morgen og kveld; velsign alt dere gjør — alt som dere har gjort på jorden; velsign deres mat og vann; og velsign frukten av deres kropp, frukten av deres jord, flokkene av deres storfe og flokkene av deres sauer.

Rather, worship the most high God and bow to him continually. Look expectantly for his presence at all times, and do what is right and just before him so that he may be delighted with you, give you his favor, and make the rain to fall for you morning and evening; bless everything that you do — all that you have done on the earth; bless your food and water; and bless the products of your loins, the products of your land, the herds of your cattle, and the flocks of your sheep.

Dere skal bli en velsignelse på jorden, og alle jordens nasjoner skal bli glade i dere. De vil velsigne deres sønner i mitt navn slik at de kan bli velsignet som jeg er.

You will become a blessing on the earth, and all the nations of the earth will be delighted with you. They will bless your sons in my name so that they may be blessed as I am’.

Når han hadde gitt gaver til Ismael, hans sønner, og Keturahs sønner og sendt dem bort fra sin sønn Isak, ga han alt til sin sønn Isak.

When he had given gifts to Ishmael, his sons, and Keturah’s sons and sent them away from his son Isaac, he gave everything to his son Isaac.

Ismael, hans sønner, Keturahs sønner og deres sønner dro sammen og bosatte seg fra Paran til inngangen til Babylon — i hele landet mot øst, overfor ørkenen,

Ishmael, his sons, Keturah’s sons, and their sons went together and settled from Paran as far as the entrance of Babylon — in all the land toward the east opposite the desert,

De blandet seg med hverandre og ble kalt arabere og ismaelitter.

They mixed with one another and were called Arabs and Ishmaelites.
