Verse 1
Moreover, Job continued his speech and said,

Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God watched over me;

When His lamp shone upon my head, and by His light I walked through darkness;

As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tent;

When the Almighty was still with me, when my children were around me;

When I washed my steps with cream, and the rock poured out for me streams of oil;

When I went out to the gate of the city, when I took my seat in the square!

The young men saw me and hid themselves; even the aged arose and stood.

When the ear heard me, it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it approved me;

Because I delivered the poor who cried out, the fatherless, and the one who had no helper.

The blessing of a dying man came upon me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a crown.

Then I said, 'I will die in my nest, and I will multiply my days as the sand.'

Men listened to me and waited, and kept silence for my counsel.

After my words they spoke not again; and my speech fell gently upon them.

If I smiled at them, they could hardly believe it; and the light of my countenance they did not cast down.

I chose their path and sat as their chief, and lived as a king among his troops, as one who comforts the mourners.
